Exclamation CA Folks Might Be Interested in This Article

Time of Day Calling It Quits!!!

I guess this service used to be available all over the country but it is almost a thing of the past. Those of you from CA are still able to call a certain number 24/7 to find out the time and sometimes temperature. That will soon be just a memory.

I just found out that AT&T is going to be canceling this service in CA on Sept. 18th so if you want to listen to a piece of history, you'd better call soon. They say it has gone away in 48 other states, already. I found an article on it from the L A Times and am giving you the link here:

Time of day calling it quits at AT&T - Los Angeles Times

One cool thing about the article is that it links you to a site where you can actually listen to recordings of a couple of the most famous voices that we all heard a lot during our lives. It's quite a fascinating story!

Anyway, if it strikes you as such a big deal as it did me, you may want to share the article with a few of your friends and family. There is a link provided at the site of the article or you can just send that link in an email or post in a forum. Hmmm...I think I'll go over to the CA Forum here at CD and be sure they all know about it, too!

Have a great day, everyone!

MrsG

mrsg - yea, heard that on the radio, sad to hear of another part of our history going away.
If I heard right, I think then Arizona still has this service. Thanks for posting this!

What sad news, MrsG. What are we supposed to do when we wanna set our watches & clocks????? It can't be that expensive for them to have that feature on the phone.....come on...they're the phone company for cryin' out loud!!!!....it's free to them. Grrrrrrr Oh, and BTW, in CA, the number was POP-CORN. But actually, as long as one dialed the prefix of 767, the last four digits could be anything you wanted. I always dialed 767-1111, because during the times of rotary dialing....it took too long to dial the other. LOL Yep, lazy as heck!!! hehehehehe

I'm gonna have to follow the yellow brick link and listen for one last time. ***sniff sniff*** Not sure why, but I'm really sad. Perhaps because it's been something I've enjoyed since childhood, and it won't be there anymore. That dear lady was my friend. I used to call her all the time and we'd visit for quite a while. Although.....come to think of it, she never called me. And, she never told me her name. ???

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Take care dear lady......We'll miss you!!!

Going to get my black veil,
Boof

Poor, poor Boof!

Just thought I'd mention that in southern California, the number was 853-xxxx but I didn't know that. I always dialed 853-1212 and it didn't matter what area code I lived in!

Yep, pretty sad! Chin up, ol' girl!
