I don't think marriage is only about religion. I'm an atheist, doesn't mean I don't want to get married...
But, really its all about the taxes. Gov't's gotta keep tabs on ya.

It's not as though the license makes you any more married. It's just one more way that the government can extract another tax from you and keep tabs on what you are doing.

no apologies needed. As for religion and marriage I meant to say those are my reasons for getting married. I had to be right with God before I chose to live with my husband. Not to say I do everything perfectly. That was just something very important to me.

The only explanation I can come up with--and it's probably not a very good one is that in addition to tax collection, obviously, it might help the government compile census information, and help people do genealogical research. |
