Because of the ice, I baked cookies and brownies today. Rationalizing this event! Hubby is now blissfully satisfied with these endeavors. House smelled pretty good with the aromas of the chocolate filling the air. Of course had to compete w/the fire place. Ahhhh, but...that was good! Went through some more of these post cards, letters and such from the family farm that would have been discarded. May have to take some pictures of some of them and post here. Really exquisite and some really funny and some not very P.C..

Post cards 100 yrs. old. Some letters that age and most in the 1920's. What makes some of these older letters interesting that my hubby's aunt kept, are the references to current events of the times. The letters from the 1940's have a few remarks about Bob Hope and Sally Rand being at the base and entertaining the soldiers. Others mention the movies that the letter writer saw at their theatre. Also remarks about the war. Some sad.

Letters that were far too personal have been destroyed due to some of the content. You know, old love letters and such. She had no children and I just don't feel comfortable holding on to some of these. Others will be put into 5 groups to pass along to our children. Even some will give to the original letter writer or their children. You should see some of the older greeting cards. Lace, velvet and such on some of them.

So far I have put all of the post cards into acid free photo albums. This is really rather enjoyable to do. Keeps me out of trouble...well a little bit anyway. Enough for now, have to roam around on here for a bit and keep up with y'all. Take care.

The above post is absolutely perfect for being the 100OTH!! post on the Chatter Box thread by no other than the O.P herself!!

Ladies and Gentleman...... Northwoods Voyager!!!!

Edit: On the thread list it said, 1000 replies. On the post number, it must count the O.P. making it 1001.

NV you must be having a blast looking at all those old items.
I can remember as a child (late 50's) some of the pretty cards we would receive at Christmas. They just don't make them like that any more. But then again, people don't seem to send out cards the way they once did.
My mother was born in Australia and some of the cards we would get from our relatives there were really nice.
I am sure all those that receive your gifts of the albums will be very happy with them.

I am now craving chocolate.. thanks

Northwoods, I could smell the chocolate and woodsmoke, reading your post, as well as hear the crackling of the fire, what a great word picture!
I would love to see pix of the postcards!

Default The little green squares?

HaHa! i just noticed my rep is 110. Thanks. I also have 3 little green squares. I happened to place my mouse on the green squares and it said.
"mamagator will become famous soon enough.
so I started reading what others had to say. Very cute feature. Who put the sayings in? Clever...very clever!

I learn something new everyday.

First of all, thank you for the congratulations. I was reading a few posts on CD when the DM came to me concerning the Gift early this a.m. I am still so surprised. And, yes, what a birthday present for my '39th'. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....Oh how I wish, well, almost. I'm sure that not many around here even know the name, 'Jack Benny', let alone remember him. But that was his age until he was well into 'old' age.. Again, thank you, jammer.

Sorry! Had to vent! Thanks for listening and please VOTE to rid our Government of the other idiots!!
