Default Wanting to move to Missouri to start a farm?!?

I'm 20 years old and single and have been working for a farmer for the last
Three years, we farm 3000 acres here in AZ but for a wile I have been
Wanting to get out on my own!!! I want to farm where it's greener then
Here lol I'm tired of AZ!!!!

I have been told that the gov will help me with getting money to start a crop
Farm? I would be looking for as much land as I could afford to start with.
I would be looking to lease land untill I would get on my feet!!

Please give me some ideas and info that you know about gov grants or FSA loans!!!

Thankyou!!!

So in essence, what you're saying is that you want to use our tax dollars to start a farm which may not fly in a state you've likely never lived in, unless you're from here originally. Is that right? My question would be, why should we help another potential drasin on the people's resources.

Maybe you should try to marry a farmer's daughter?

Marrying the farmer's daughter is a good idea, as long as she wants to stay on the farm and not run off to the big city!

Ground is hard to come by. Small pieces are available on the edge of towns etc. Failed housing editions, commercial undeveloped ground. Around here you will need at least a tractor in the 4020 John Deere size.
Smaller acres will mean a custom cutter won't want to combine for you so you will need an older combine and you will also need to rent hopper bottom trailers or use your own tandem axle grain trucks. Farming in AZ is totally different there than here other than the long hours. You are going to have to be able to cash flow your first season most likely. No bank will help you. I have never known anyone around here that farms that got started without help from someone; family etc.. Marrying a farmers daughter is a great way to get started.
Were it me and not getting married i would buy a used 4 wheel drive articulating tractor and a cutting disc , a finish disc and a field cultivator (any of these three can be purchased for as little as $2500.00 each used if you shop hard)and then start helping someone else and get them to plant for you. This would be after you have found some ground. Most likely you will only find about 20 acre patches etc. You are going to need at least 20k in used equipment. It can be done but it will sure be up hill for you.

While acreage in MO is more affordable than many areas of the country tillable acreage is at 40 yr. highs. It is not unusual for many farmers to lease hundreds/thousands of acres rather to only farm what they own. In general, the further North, closer to the Iowa line, the better the soil and the more expensive the land.
