Missouri offering wireless Internet at state park

Park campgrounds with wireless access include: Bennett Spring near Lebanon; Montauk near Salem; Roaring River near Cassville; Table Rock near Branson; Meramec near Sullivan; Baker near Patterson; Babler in Wildwood; Johnson’s Shut-Ins near Middlebrook; Onondaga Cave near Leasburg; Long Branch near Macon; and Finger Lakes near Columbia.

Sounds like a good deal. Surely someone will oppose it.

I can check my email and anything else basic that I need to do using my data network at pretty much all MO state parks now (wireless coverage has really improved in rural MO over the last 5-7 years). If you want to play World of Warcraft or stream So You Think You Can Dance on Hulu, you might as well just stay home.

I'm not opposed per se, but I do think it's pretty pointless and contrary to the entire point of camping.

I would only use it to just stop in and check an email etc. I don't camp at state parks. Too many idiots.

I just feel as though they're years to late to even make that useful. Almost everyone I know has data on their phone and doesn't need WiFi. We even stream Cardinals radio broadcasts over the internet on our data plan when we camp because it's easier than finding an AM station that comes in clearly.

As far as idiots I've found it's very SP specific. Bennett Springs is laid back and very quiet while the place north of Columbia -- can't think of what it's called at the moment -- is one of the worst places on Earth. Onondaga is usually very nice but the Lake of the Ozarks SP gets crazy, particularly on holiday weekends. We just stayed at Watkins Mill SP north of KC for the first time and it was a nice, and small, campground as well. We go to a lot of state parks. And when compared to Wisconsin or Illinois we Missourians really do state parks right.
