fatal carwreck near Ironton on Saturday (Branson, Salem: live in, store, cabin)

I live in Illinois. My husband and I were on our way to a friends cabin on the Black River, when we came upon a car wreck Saturday afternoon. It had just happened, there were only a couple people there, no ambulance yet. I saw a boy lying in the middle of the highway in very bad shape. I have never seen anything like that in my life. It was heartbreaking. I'm a mother, and all I could think about was "This is someones son." The next day we were heading back home, and I stopped in a gas station in Arcadia, and asked the clerk if she had heard anything about what happened to the boy. The last I had seen, the ambulance was taking him away. But I knew it didn't look good for him. Well, the store clerk told me she had heard he died. I just wonder if anyone knew him or anything about him. His name was Ethan and he was only 16. I've been thinking about him since it happened.

How aweful.... Well think about this at least he died at the hospital instead of laying on the side of road. I am sorry.

call the police that would of been called at that time - whatever local police ..they might be able to tell you the family name /parent .. not sure due to the age of the child.

Sorry you had to witness something so traumatic.

2b - being that he was a minor and/or that they [jenclen23] are not of kin, would the police release that?

In any case, here is some info about crashes that occurred in that area/timeperiod, but there are some differences between the OP and this [older and no Ethan's...] - could be that the one that the OP witnessed has just not been released as of yet, or not w/in this particular story:

he was my cousin. his name was ethan riggs he fell asleep at the wheel on his way to work after a night out drinking and his car flipped and he died at the hospital. he was only 17 years old. it was so sad.

I'm sorry for your loss and your family's heartache at the loss of this young life. It's very hard for me to feel sorry for him. I'm thankful he did not take anyone else with him.

i agree, 20yrs, but jeez are the last two sentences necessary? i'm sure the family of the deceased boy realizes his terrible and fatal mistake. some things go without saying.... including this post in response .
