MO- THANKS FOR THE PICS....WOW...I am so excited now I can't wait to get there. Now that looks like where I grew up in the NE Georgia Mountains... I just told hubby "well from the looks of things we screwed up coming to Texas first because I think if we had went to Missouri first it would have been all done with"

We are down in San Antonio right now and I have to say I like the Alamo and The River Walk...but I am counting the days to get on the big vessel and come to Missouri... Again, great pics MO....you are making me SMILE....

No problem at all! You are choosing a great area to live. Wentzville and Troy are very prosperous communities and the areas north have the rural atmosphere. I wanted to share those pics because this part of MO (north of the Missouri River) area is often under represented in the MO forum along with misinformation. Life does exist in Missouri outside the Ozarks and Branson!

Here's a tidbit of info and good luck on the move. MN34

MO- That's kinda interesting isn't it? From all the things I have researched and read it looks to be one of the most nicest areas of Missouri. You have the best of all the worlds...If you wanna live in the country you can and if you don't you can live in a nice city...It seems in any state there is always certain areas that get the most attention. Which that is a good thing in one sense..us who like to live in "the sticks" still can! All this information is good stuff....More More More....I am a sponge...bring it on!

Rats!! My sister just sold her house in Troy.
As an outsider and a frequent visitor to the area I hope you don't mind me chipping in.
My sister and family just moved from Troy up to Louisiana...pretty little town.
Her comments on Troy....Troy kinda straddles an exit on the Hwy and while the "downtown" is charming to me there are new stores being built there on RT47 and so the traffic can be heavy. It's growing rapidly.
I was there the beginning of this month and I saw they added even more. There are also a number of new subdivisions on RT47 there near the Cuevr River State park. But the roads are still 2 lane.
Now my nephew lives in Winfield (Rt 79 &47). He's happy there. It looks like it's growing also. I saw a new grocery story and it has a nice Community Center where he had his wedding reception Oct 6th. It does seem that Winfield is preparing for the growth with the road construction I saw.
My niece lives in Old Monroe which is closer to the interstate but that's about all I can tell you about it.
I, for one, think the entire area you're considering is beautiful and if it wasn't for the white stuff that gets on the ground in the winter I'd probably get Hubby to move there.
Good luck in your search!

Capt- Thanks for the information. I know what you mean about the "white stuff" we had a transfer offer last year around the first week in December and we declined it. We are hoping the transfer will come through this time in spring so we can stay in the RV for awhile. That we can get familar with the area and figure out where we want to put down some roots.

I guess the GM plant is not that big since I haven't had any replies to that. Just wondered where it was in the big scheme of things in Wentzville... We are just "car and truck nuts"

I bet its looking great for the Fall there. I hope to see some colors when we get there...Looking forward to Nov. 9th...

I've lived in St. Peters and O'Fallon, MO all of my life (now in Rolla for school, contemplating Hawaii for grad. school ), and my wife comes from Wentzville, so I can help you if you need any more assistance. You don't need to go far at ALL outside of Wentzville to pick up 2 acres of property for cheap, that's for certain. If you want a long ride to work, Augusta is a very pretty area (all wine country). Let me know if you have any other questions.

HEY EVERYONE....
Just got back in....We are speechless...Missouri is just fabulous...We did some more driving this weekend. We took out on 79N at Exit 220 off of I70 and drove it all the way to Hannibal...What a journey! Even seen Mark Twain and the American Queen Riverboat. The fall colors are just gorgeous...We came back down 19 to Hermann. We walked all the little towns on 79. We were just amazed at all "country" IT STILL EXISTS...shhhhhhh please don't tell anyone else....
Was not too thrilled with the Crossroads Motel. We pulled in and there is cops galore in the lower area of the Motel. You could tell it was some type of domestic. We go check in and we ask what is going on, owner tells us its a medical issue. BS...We get our room key go pull down to the room and we walk over and ask the nice officers. They said it was "in so many words" a domestic but told us not to worry it was handled. Evidently they have started renting to some "permanent residents" and they clientel is not so good. We didn't do anything there but sleep so it was not that much of a big deal. Our neighbor just sat out at all times of the night drinking and stacking up bottles ... Carpet in room was filthy and if you walked across it in your socks they turned black after one pass... Bed was worn completely out BUT was clean... The rest was all questionable...but for $50 a night... We did talk to someone that said they had seen a change over there with the clientel but didn't know what was going on... Just a heads up for anyone thinking of staying there...

We liked Wentzville, not to live in town though...perhaps 30 or 40 miles out... We rode 30-40 miles out in all directions but really liked Defiance,Foristell,Hermann and the little towns surrounding them. Plus, we like a lot of the northern towns also....
Definatley will find something to rent so we can find our perfect gem to buy!

We went to Augusta today and spent the day there, ate lunch at Ashley Resturant and BB. Then we headed back out to Daniel Boone's home and walked some on the Katy trail. I started to hide out at Daniels place and just stay!!!!!!!

I have some photos......whoooooo do I have some photos!!! Will post tomorrow... We were so sad to come back to Texas.......What a trip! Did I mention how much we liked it???????

Well Gang did you think I had forgot Missouri?
I am back for some help. DH will be leaving for Missouri in 30 days.
We are trying to decided if we should rent a house or an extended stay hotel. Both may have to happen as he will be there by himself to begin with.
We have a house to sell and etc... So maybe a hotel will be better to start?
The one thing I did not look for on our visit last year was extended stay hotels. Where would be a good area near Wentzville with extended stay hotels?
Also on the renting side I have browsed Craigslist and Realtor.com and have not seen very much. Is there any companies there that oversee a lot of rentals or etc...

You guy always so helpful and here's a BIG THanks in Advance!
