Arrow Mountain Grove MO Here We Come!

Haven't checked in to the Forum in a while. We are moving to Mo next Spring probably. Have a house to sell here in CA -- if the entire state does not burn up! Guess you've all seen the news...at least we have a lake here near our house to jump into if it gets completely out of hand . Last I heard, the military is coming out to help. Anyway, we have decided that if the house here does not sell within six months or so, we'll get a big motorhome and hang out in Missouri, fish, shop, get to know the areas all around Mountain Grove. I am selling some of my writing and photo work, so operating from an RV should be a snap. I think. Anyone out there have any experience with laptops, Wifi, and traveling while working? As alway, thanks so much for the info!

That sounds like fun traveling around the state in an RV. You won't have the hassle of renting/leasing a place to live. I'm curious if the RV campgrounds have wi fi these days...

Good luck with the fires out there! Rest assured that the forests here in MO are mostly hardwood and aren't as conducive to fires. When they occasionaly happen, the underbrush is about all that burns.

lol, sounds great! [well, besides the homes & lands being consumed by flames part... ] As to the travel w/ laptop - do you have a Verizon or Sprint type internet access? Might want to check whomever's coverage that best fits area(s) yas will be mobiling within. I travel, but usually get my 'net feed via hotel access, so can't help ya much w/ that. Your plans sound so cool - buggin about here and there in an RV, working on laptop, fishing, sight-seeing, etc. Good luck!

ps: don't know how accurate/up-to-date these are, but nonetheless...

Thanks for the help you all! Mo isn't in a lot of danger of fires as I recall--just tornados...oh, well, there is something everywhere. I will check the web sites shadowcaver offered. Should make things a lot better knowing about access ahead of time. A campground (in fact the only campground) in Mountain Grove was doing a lot of renovation last Summer when we were there, and hopefully will have access. Again, many thanks to you all for the real time, hands on experiences!

Hi,

We're looking at a 19 acre prop in Drury. Map says about 16 miles to MG, WalMart there. Any idea of cost to install a basic storm shelter in this area? Also, we are active seniors, want to raise small livestock, garden. Is there an active senior population in MG?

Thanks for any help.

I'd be very surprised if Mountain Grove didn't have an active senior population. The population in that area tends to be much older than the country as a whole.

One thing you may want to consider about Drury is the proximity to medical services. The area around Drury is absolutely beautiful, but the nearest hospitals are in West Plains or Houston (both about 40 miles away on curvy roads), or Springfield (about 80 miles away). It might be a better idea to find a place a little closer to town...the entire area is really rural and you can still find 19-acre properties within a few miles of any of the towns.
