What is the difference between the definition of family and non-family households? When you look up a certain feature via city-data and click on a county, you are provide three numbers - households, family households, and non-family households.

I would say Households is the total number of households. Household is further defined: Family Household is a group of related members (mom, dad, uncle, aunt, grandma, kids). Non-Family could be any combination of unrelated persons in that unit (foster parent and foster child, friends who live together, or possibly one person only). If I want this type of information I usually look at the U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts.
