I can't imagine that StL would be any different than any other large city in the U.S. Large metro areas are always such a mixed bag of cultures, races, and economic levels that no real "type" can be apparent.

My all-too-brief stay in central MO was very positive...So much so that I'm considering moving there. Friendly people and just an overall welcoming feel.

I always found people in Missouri to be very friendly. Even in St Louis. The only part of Missouri where the few people I ran into weren't friendly, was in the bootheel. They weren't rude, they just weren't friendly at all. They might be alright, I just got the impression they didn't want to be bothered. So I completed my business with 'em, and then I left. I don't know why, but I felt kind of sorry for them. They didn't seem real happy. I've been all over Missouri, and every other place I been in Missouri, everybody was real nice. Branson to Springfield to KC and St Joe, Columbia, St Louis, Rolla, Lebanon. Everywhere.

We've lived here for four years now and love it. A great part of why is the people. They've been friendly, welcoming, helpful, pleasant. Who could ask for more?

Thank you for many posts about how welcoming and friendly Missourians are! I am looking forward to my planned move to St. Louis more than ever!

Maybe it is just the Bootheel where I lived once. I did noticed that people in the Bootheel aren't that happy. It must be poverty because the Bootheel is home to some of MO's poorest counties. Like I said, you cannot judge the entire state based on one region.

Although Blytheville, Arkansas is my hometown, I grew up mostly in Little Rock and Fayetteville so I think I will do just fine in St. Louis. Little Rock is a somewhat diverse medium-sized city. The only difference is that St. Louis is much bigger and not southern.

In my limited experience of St Louis, I find the people there less friendly and less warm than Kansas Citians.

I am only contemplating between KC and St Louis now because of novelty factor.

From my experience, people in the Bootheel are pretty friendly. However, I haven't spent much time in Kennett so there may be something going on there I don't know about. A buddy of mine from Kennett is a very outgoing person and seems pretty happy with his life.

The Bootheel is definitely poor and can be depressing depending on what part of it you are in.

I actually remember seeing some Confederate flags in Kennett, Hayti, Caruthersville, and even Poplar Bluff (just out of the Bootheel). You don't see many of them like you do in the Deep South though.

Wearing camouflage clothes and John Deere shirts are more popular in the Bootheel due to country people, rednecks, and those who are into hunting and fishing. You will never see me wearing these tacky clothes. LOL
