Default Looking for our spot in Southern MO

Greetings fellow Missourians - hoping some of you can help us

My family and I are hoping to move to Southern MO next summer as we want to be back with our families and we'd love the ability to afford a small farm to raise our kids (as we were raised). Those of you there are very lucky as Missouri is still one of the BEST kept secrets if you ask me! We have family in the St Louis area as well as down near Cape - we're hoping to be somewhere close to those areas but also need to be within reasonable distance of the STL airport. Obviously jobs, schools, cost of living are all factors in our search of the areas. My husband and I are very interested in conservation, building green, biodiesel, recycling, solar/wind energy and both want to work within these industries - do any of you know of companies (we prefer the "mom & pop" concept) or individuals we can contact? Any advise on where you live and what you've found from living there? Thank you for any help you can offer - we're so excited about what's ahead!

Sorry, fellow, that I cannot answer your questions. We have many here who can, though. I just wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to C-D. You will find many CDers who have much information to share, as I am certain, you do as well. Hope you plan to remain with the group, however, this lifestyle is very addicitive.

Good question! I wonder if possibly the Missouri Department of Natural Resources could give you any suggestions or make any referrals? Missouri Department of Natural Resources - MoDNR. Here in this part of California, gas is up to no less than about $3.40 per gallon and diesel is just ridiculous--around $3.65 to $3.70. Maybe in the not too distant future it will be economically more feasible to convert regular diesel-powered cars and trucks to biodiesel. It seems like it takes too much conventional energy to produce ethanol and especially to transport it to states outside the Farm Belt. Anyway, it's great to have you among a growing number who want to relocate to Missouri! I know I do.

Default Southern Mo...

Southern Mo but close to St. Louis? You might try posting in the St.Louis forum also...just a thought. We're about 4 hours from the lovely city so I'm reckoning SW MO wouldn't be your cup of tea...although I'd love to see a green energy outlet open up here.

Good Luck...it's a challenge to find the right spot BUT worth it!

You might try looking down near Perryville, MO and then north from there up 55 to St. Gen and then on up to Festus. That corridor is a pretty drive, Perryville seems to be a nice little town and it's not that far from Cape or Saint Louis, St. Gen is an old historic town with lots of history. I think a small farm would be easy to find.

I have heard that area has lots of caves so keep that in mind when looking at land if you have small kids.

I live in a small town aprox. half way between St. Louis and Cape. The town is
listed in the history of the civil war and we have a earthen fort where a battle occured during the civil war,a state cival war history mueseum and have reinactments of the battle every three years. We are actually one of three small towns sitting side by side in a
beautiful Missouri valley filled with an abundance of history, great fishing, hiking trails, conservation parks and forest's with an abundance of wildlife, and a great school teaching kindergarden through twelth grade, a community college only twenty five minutes away.Missouri conservation produces a lot of the jobs in our part of the state, and we have several small to medium size manufacturing plants all within a twenty to thirty minute drive of Pilot Knob. We are within five miles of the highest point in the state of Missouri ,Taum Saulk Mountain. The air is fresh and clean.Within the three small towns their is three medium size grocery markets, two small department stores, five mom & pop type restaurants, and new to this area three fast food restaurants,a country music theater on weekends, antique shops, a new 24 hour emergency care hospital.I was born in this county ( Iron County Missouri )Lived part of my life in St. Louis, have lived in Pilot Knob aprox.twenty five years, raised three children in this home.My wife is from St. Louis and most of her family is there and we would like to move back to that area so we have listed our home for sale through a realty. We recently remodeld our home, new steel doors, energy effeciant tinted glass tilt windows, whirlpool tub, seperate shower stall, adding aprox. 650 square feet of living space and a two car garage with a 22 foot wide concrete drive, new concrete sidewalks. If you would be interested in purchasing this home please email me at music19412002@yahoo.com and I would be happy to have my realty contact you with details on my home.I hope to hear back from you.
