I posted this on the Springfield board, not knowing it wasn't the main Missouri board. The thread was Does any know about Forsyth?? ...In response, I posted the following picture which I consider to be worth much more than a thousand words.

Forsyth, Mo. 1950

It got a good response from another poster and I answered with a post of my own, which I will paste below. I think many on this board will like the site I mention and wanted them to have access to it.

From this site. Click the pics to go to the next one. It's from 1950.

It's a wonderful site. The Missouri Photo Workshop. Each year since 1949, teams of photojournalism students from MU converge upon a town in Missouri and compile human interest stories. They are mentored by professional photojournalists from such publications as National Geographic, Time, etc.

Every Missourian and some others should surf through the site.

Here's a review from Amazon of a book they published a dozen or so years ago...

Quote:
A vivid chronicle of the heartbeat of America as glimpsed thorugh the daily life in small towns.

Clifton C. Edom founded the Missouri Photographic Workshop in 1949. Through his work with the workshop he became known as the father of photojournalism education. An instinctive alchemist and catalyst, he was less a teacher than a dominating presence. Cliff Edom presented his last workshop in 1990 shortly before his death. Nothing is forever, but the Missouri Workshop lives on in his image.
