I'm looking into buying a couple of acres of land to eventually build a house on and retire too in about 8 to 10 years . Since I'll be older I don't want to be to far from good medical center or groceries stores .20 to 30 minutes away from decent suburbs .I would like to buy land now , how is the Catawissa area ? I have friends in the Hillsboro area and like it there but I think it's about twice the distance . Any other suggestions ?

Most folks will be asking you, "Where the hell is Catawissa?"! Even folks from the St. Louis area. How do I know? I lived in Catawissa for close to twenty years. It is a mostly quiet town, the country surrounding it is some of the nicest in MO, in my opinion. There was, during the time I lived there, a small-time motorcycle club known as the "road saints", and meth was a bit of a problem, but as long as you were not involved with either, life was peaceful and quiet. Violent crime was almost nonexistent outside criminal circles, petty crime not necessarily rare, but not common, either. Like I said, I lived there for twenty years, never had any trouble. Really a nice quiet area, all in all, and in a good location for some quiet living within an easy drive for work or other needs. The drive into St. Louis on I-44 is usually better than a drive in on any other highway in the area. I would still be there if I had not met a good woman farther south and relocated to her area.

As far as other areas, I liked Marthasville and the country between there and Warrenton, Also do not discount the Hermann and New Haven areas. Beautiful country, not too far from a hospital at Washington, and quiet, except during Oktoberfest(big party in Hermann with a German flavor). Some nice places between Eureka and House Springs along highway W, also, and convenient to the city. Good luck with whatever you decide. Check out the real estate taxes, demographics, and the like, but Catawissa is good country, as are most of the other areas I mentioned. It just depends on what suits you best.

Default Catawissa area

Thanks for the info . Yeah , I have friends who live in St Louis and grew-up there and when I asked them about the area , they'd never heard of it .
