Killed By A Drop From A Balloon

Mercer, Missouri, Sept., 1887--- At the Mercer County Fair, Randall Blakeelee, a half-breed Indian, went up in a balloon, holding on to a trapeze bar. The balloon shot up suddenly giving Blakeelee a jolt, he was unable to pull himself up on the bar but managed to hold on for about a mile. The balloon began to descend to 500 feet and he lost his grip and fell feet- first into a cornfield. The bones of his legs were driven into the trunk of his body.
