Missouri hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1996, when Bill Clinton won reelection. Since then, they've voted Republican in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. Barack Obama almost carried the state in 2008, by mere votes. The only Democrats in high office in Missouri is Gov. Jay Nixon, Sen. Claire McCaskill, Congressmembers Lacy Clay of the St. Louis area and Emanuel Cleaver of Kansas City, Missouri. Missouri Attorney Gen. Chris Koster, and State Treasurer Clint Zwiefel. Is Missouri still a swing state or is it pure red?

Leans that way, but neither party seem to be automatic shoe-ins on statewide races. They never were and that's still the case today.

Missouri would be a solid red state...but kc and Stl make it only lean red. Still basically a conservative state but a moderate democrat can do well in Missouri.

I think Jay Nixon may have shot himself in the foot with his "vigorous prosecution" remark last week. Anyone who supports him after that one has no idea of or appreciation for the rule of law and should stay away from the voting booths.

Anyone who doesn't know what I'm referring to has no business voting either.

You mean when he said: "The democratically elected St. Louis County prosecutor and the Attorney General of the United States, each have a job to do. Their obligation to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must be carried out thoroughly, promptly, and correctly; and I call upon them to meet those expectations."

Yeah, that's terrible. How dare Nixon call for the prompt pursuit of justice. That bastard.
