Hi All,
I just joined the forum. My wife and I moved to Eldon, Mo from Streamboat Springs, Co in May of 1990. We moved to Gunnison, Co last May with our two children who were both born in Mo. I love Colorado since I grew up in the great state as does my wife. However the other day here at work I started thinking about Missouri...A LOT! Started looking at pics of the lake and I really started to miss it .....A LOT!! I would LOVE to move back to mid Mo. as would the kids. However we are having a hard time convincing my wife. She hated the heat and the bugs. I could tolerate them because the spring and fall there were just so great! I guess I just wanted to say how much I love and miss the GREAT state of Missouri, and how everyone living there should consider themselves very fortuneate. I love to hunt and fish and both are pretty much unequaled there! Maybe some day, hopefully this spring when the kids are out of school, we can move back there. At least hopefully we can make a trip back there for a few days. There is so much to see and do there that we took for granted while living there. We have several good friends there that we dearly miss. I love the spring thunderstorms and the first humid warm days of spring. The smell of freshly cut grass. All the beautiful flowers and trees. The beautiful fall colors. The hunting and fishing. I already mentioned that! Any way, I just wanted to stop in and say "Hey" to all you lucky people!
Maybe some day we'll meet............
Awwww! That's enough to make me teary-eyed!
I'm going through the same thing, except I'm having a tough time convincing my hubby to move back.
He really wants to go, but finally started a career here in AZ. And I can absolutely understand him.
BUT we are experiencing polar oppisites: I HATE my job, though it pays good with great perks.
I know that we could both find the same work in MO & probably get paid more & live for less!
I feel yah on this subject. I MISS YOU TOO MISSOURI!

Reason: typo
More snow in St. Joseph today, so if you're not into that (especially on I-29 which had to be closed a few days ago from blizzard conditions), it wouldn't be a fun place to be. Hope Knoxville is a case of "...and they all lived happily ever after" for you!
Latest skinny with St. Joe Mayor Ken Shearin and City Manager Vince Capell is that in the aftermath of the big ice storm two weeks ago that downed a lot of tree limbs and power lines, Shearin wanted to gather the cleared-up wood and have essentially the mother of all bonfires in a large vacant lot (or some big open area). When Capell objected on safety and environmental grounds (and legal permits and this and that), that caused a bit of a kerfuffle between them. The bonfire isn't going to take place.
I don't know. Shearin to me seems like a better guy on the whole than, say, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Idiosyncracies, yes. But my wife and I still definitely want to give venerable St. Joe a try. Other mayoral candidates will come along, I'm sure, if Shearin exposes more and more of his vulnerable "soft white underbelly." Happy New Year in Knoxville to you!
Lest I be accused of thread drift, we too miss Missouri! When we leave California I'll miss our family members, church friends, Gold Country and Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. That's about it.
With a name like r8rfan, life in Bronco land must be tough? Maybe some day well have us a Missouri Raider fan party or something... Actually sounds good don't it! Missouri Raiders
Makes ya think of Quantril and Jesse James .......

Yeah almost as bad as living in Chief land!! Of course after the Rams won the super bowl it seemed a lot of Chief fans jumped ship!
A Missouri Raider fan party sounds GREAT!! If I can just get my wife to agree to get back there!
This is a great forum with a bunch of great members!

I can understand you missing the quality of life here in Missouri. My (late) wife and I moved to Springfield after many years of moving around the country and raising six children. She enjoy many of the good points that you highlighted in your post. I shared all of your list of things you enjoyed while living here. I am getting older and don't get out as much as I used to do, but I still would not want to live anywhere else given a choice.
I am listing good web site to help you keep up with some of the things that go on around here. The Forum may view it as SPAM and not allow it or you may consider it a SPAM and not want it, but if not keep it handy for when you are missing the area. I wish for you that you and your wife can agree and move back some day. We lived in (Arvarda?) Denver area for a year and really did enjoy it there and then moved to Missouri. Thanks...we're headed back to the frozen tundra of St. Joe on Monday. Have to be in town for some Dr.'s appointments and see some family. I'm not looking forward to the cold weather and wind! I certainly don't miss those two things!
"Cold" to these folks is anything below 50, and "windy" is anything more than about 10 mph. I have to chuckle at times.
Thanks a lot for the great site Frank. It's really nice and made me really homesick!
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you are in a place that makes you happy.
I,ve got my wife at least convinced to come back there this spring for a few days. In fact last night we were looking at places to visit and things to do. I can't wait! Have fishing pole, will travel!!
Thanks again.
