Default Day trippin in St James

Lake Sun Leader - Day Trippin (broken link)

Memac Springs spits out 96 million gallons per day. This little spring is the 5th largest in the state.

How about a little trout fishing?

Hmmmm,,, wonder if that is anywheres near Maramec Springs?

Yes, indeed - a quite beautiful park, spring, river, area, and town. Used to be a really excellent BBQ place, by the RR tracks there in town, east side of the road, north of the tracks... durn, can't recall its name. Anyhow, 'tis is area. As to the trout fishing - even years ago, was way too many people for this fella. Give me a clear stream running off a mountain in a glade, w/ whispering pines - not the elbow to elbow mess of a hatchery... Interesting, didn't know that there was a bike trail from the town to the park,,, thanks for the article Versatile!

Looks like this would be the time of year to go. I'm with ShadowCaver....no elbow to elbow fishing for this guy either!

Looks like a beautiful place to visit even if a person didn't go fishing. Gonna have to put it on my list of must sees when we get back there!

Wait so the river and caverns are spelled Meramec but the springs are spelled Maramec? That's weird. Anyone know why?

No- I looked it up. They're seriously spelled differently. That's trippy.

Missmo is on a distinguished road
I grew up in Crawford County, near Meramec Springs. It was always a favorite picnic/family reunion spot for us. Lots to do--nice playgrounds for the kids--fish hatchery--walking trails--it's definitely a must-see.
Plus, if you're a wino (hah!), there are fabulous vineyards in St. James.
