Non-resident car tags? (Fort Leonard Wood, Leonard, Rea: home, income, property taxes)

Anyone here know if Missouri has non-resident licence plates or drivers licenses (For military members)?

Here in Nebraska I have a non-resident plate, and I don't have to pay property taxes to renew them. Does a similar program exist in MO?

I already visited that site and couldn't find any info for non-residents. Lots of stuff for residents living out of state, but not the other way around.

I'll probably forever destroy my budding good reputation on here by admitting this, but I work for the Department of Revenue-- not in Motor Vehicles, to be sure, but I am familiar with where to find answers. First, the things I know--

Missouri has no non-resident license plates. You either are or aren't a Missouri resident. To quote from the website-- "You have 30 days from the date of becoming a Missouri resident to title your vehicle." Here's the link for that info-- scroll down a little to get to the new resident blurb.

Now, it may well be that, even though you will be stationed in Missouri, you won't be considered a Missouri resident, because another department, one with which I am more familiar, has a special rule regarding Missouri residency and state income tax for military personnel temporarily stationed here. Here's a webpage that discusses various fact situations regarding servicemembers stationed in Missouri. The bottom line is that a servicemember stationed here whose permanent home is in another state owes no Missouri income tax on his or her military pay.

But, that may NOT be the case regarding motor vehicle titles. I would ask someone in Motor V, as we fondly refer to that division. Here's a webpage with contact info. I emphatically recommend the general Motor V phone number near the bottom of the page, rather than calling one of the fee offices, unless you happen to stumble on one near Fort Leonard Wood. where they're probably used to dealing with the question.
