Sorry if my tone came across wrong. I like the Missouri reservoirs just fine, but really enjoy my trips to MN.

Does anyone know when the annual fairs are held for the Carthage area?
I really enjoy my trips to that area.

Yes, What fairs are there and when? And as long as Carthage was mentioned didn't I read somewhere about a new Hospital and or High School? I'm out of the corner now. Thanks Darlynn

There is one big festival that I can think of at the moment which is the Maple Leaf Festival. I think its usually in October, but I don't really remember. I believe that the new hospital was completed not too long ago. I find it weird because its off of US 71 in more of a rural part of Carthage. I have also heard about them building a new high school, but I don't where.

LOL

Maple Leaf is the first weekend of October or November... I cant remember. There is also Marion Days in August. Its a Vietnamese religous celebration. The population goes up by about 50,000 people durring this week. Most people there are from far away and outside the US but residents and other people go there as well. I went my first year here. It was neat to see their traditions and eat, shop and observe. Just dont take your dog! (really)

Not to bump Carthage, but I dont care for it at all. They have some beautifull houses there and nice people, I just have not been impressed at all.

Are there any streets in Joplin that have the same charm as Grand Ave. in Carthage? I agree that some areas of Carthage are not very appealing but I sure was impressed with Grand Ave.

The Maple Leaf Parade is always held the 3rd Sat in Oct, although festivities are held every night for the week before. The Jasper County Youth Fair is in July, and the Midwest Gathering of the Artists is in Sept I believe. Yes, the new McCune-Brooks Hospital is open with almost all services available. The new High School will be open for the Spring semester of '09 at which time they will rearrange the other grades to reduce overcrowding. We also recently opened a new addition to the Public Library which doubled its size. We have a small Hispanic cultural festival in the summer. The Vietnamese Marion Days is a great place to try authentic food. They have a huge light display at Christmas on the Vietnamese campus also.I will try to post other events in Carthage as they come up on the Missouri events link.

Murphysburg in Joplin's old downtown. The houses here have a lot of history but the surrounding neighborhood has a really rough crowd. It is located in the area of 2nd to 4th, Moffet to Jackson. It not as nice as Grand in Carthage. That area of Carthage is very historic.

I couldn't remember what street it was but a couple of years ago we were driving around the old downtown and saw a realtor having an open house so we went in and looked around. Beautiful home built in 1910 I think. Very nice and I thought very reasonable but like you said, a couple blocks away the area got pretty rough looking. I would like to keep this chat going so would someone else like to add something? How about Neosho, Seneca and maybe Monett? Any one have pictures of parades or festivals in the area they would like to share? How about some of the old historic homes in the area? I read somewhere Neosho is rebuilding their downtown and I think also Joplin has been for awhile. Am I right?
