Any help is greatly appreciated
Hello, I have been doing a lot of research on the Missouri area. My fiance and I would like to find a place with a affordable living for a young family (both 18, and a young baby due in August). She use to live in MO, and has wanted to go back forever, but we do not want a ton of snow. We also need a safe area, but that has recreational things to do (movie theatres, mall, etc.) I love some advice on the state. Anything you can tell me would be great, all suggestions are welcome, we are wanting to move with $5,000 saved up. We are looking at apartments, any advice you have is welcomed.
Thank you for everything,
Bryan Swann

Go south young man, go south!
Actually, Springfield may be up your alley. It's a nice smaller sized city with theaters, shopping, etc. Plus a downtown that is being rehabbed into a destination area with shops, cafe's, clubs, etc.
There are many smaller towns south/west of St. Louis that you may also like...and St. Louis has LOTS of things to do and not a ton of snow (but more than Springfield).
We used to live in the Eureka/Pacific area which is So. West of St. Louis. Made it fairly easy to commute into work, school, etc.
Depends on the type of work your looking for....and based upon your moving budget, I would definitely ensure you have work lined up before you make any move.

Ever think of Lake of the Ozarks area? Osage beach has everything. Only draw back is there is a lot of tourism in the summer. There is a big factory outlet mall and a theater and all kinds of activities. Eldon is about ten miles from the lake and is more affordable, but still close enough to enjoy to your hearts content! The Bagnell dam strip has all kinds of small shops and arcades and fun stuff. I guess it depends too whether you want a big city or prefer small town living like we do. We are moving back to Rocky Mount and as I've posted before it's a gas station, post office, and hardware store all in one building!
Where in Missouri is your fiance from?
Good luck to you!
You'll LOVE Missouri. Guaranteed!

Well I live in Macon but we get little of snow about an inch or 2.We do have a movie theatre here, a Plays, A drive in movie about 25 min drive. I am sorry no mall here but you can drive an hour to Columbia. I would recommend Columbia because it is a big city but not as big as Kansas and it is a College town. You need to be more specific as what your really looking for? I am going to deliver a baby in August as well. Good luck!!

Thank you I will look into the areas you both mentioned. I have definately planned to have a job lined up first, thank you for the mention though.
I want a nice medium town with a friendly atmosphere...not all that gang crap like here in Elkhart, IN.
She is from the Belton area, I'm not sure if that is familiar to you.

Dahubby and I just moved to the Ava, Mo area, which is 60 miles east of Springfield and love it. We do not have any children and love living in the "sticks". The drive to Springfield is a nice one and that's where we go to do our major shopping. There are many small towns around Springfield that I am sure would offer you everything you are looking for.
Good luck in you search. I am sure you will love Missouri no matter where you decide to move.
Welcome to our little home here at the Missouri forum.

Thank you for the idea, I'm going to do some research on the areas around Springfield.
The people on this forum are already more helpful than I've found on any of the other forums.

Thanks for the compliment. When I first came into this forum I felt the same way. What great people we have here. That's what makes the MO forum the Best forum. And I am proud to be a part of it.
