Many years the snow we get in october or november is the snow you get to see again in late april when all the other snow melts off from on top of it. If you ever live in WI DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OUTSIDE YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE. The kids took the ice chopper in the back yard and it is somewhere under 3 feet of snow and ice. I had to go buy another, but I will get to see it again in late april or the way this year is going...perhaps may. It will be a bittersweet reunion indeed!!!!

If you want a warm summer and milder weather than northern Wisconsin I would look at areas of NE Iowa around Dubuque or Decorah. Those areas have rather nice scenery with more trees than other portions of the state. Also, you will not have as much snow there compared with N Wisconsin, but the summers will be cooler than MO.

Hey there berries..
We moved her 6 yrs ago from Minnesota..right on the Canadian border. NO REGRETS! We now live in SW Missouri..near Springfield. The weather is much hotter and more humid in summer, but you acclimate after the first summer. The short and mild winters make it all worth while though!! The people here are very friendly, and have the great southern manners.
The growning season here is almost double. Gardening is much different then in the north, but in my opinion easier, and crops are much bigger. If you like flowers, the choices here are incredible for perrenials. In Minnesota I would have to plant Purple Cone Flower next to my foundation, mulch with 2 feet of straw, and pray they would return the next year, here they grow everywhere in the ditches. There are more fruit trees to chose from to plant, (peaches, cherries) and the road side stands are everywhere in summer to buy fruit and vegies if you don't garden.
We have also found that the schools here are awsome.
To top it all off, you can't beat the beauty of the Missouri Ozarks. I recommend you check out this area before making your decision.
Good luck!

Years ago I moved frome southeastern Wi to St. Louis Mo. I about died. The heat was so overpowering my whole personality changed, and let us say not positively! Even with air conditioning. It's the going out, getting into hot cars or whatever. What I also did not like is that it seemed spring lasted about a week, then went into HOT.

I just from Wi to Joplin Berries
We just moved 3 months ago from Camp Douglas WI to joplin.
The good:Its cheaper down here tax wise and they take less out of your check. Very afforable housing. [MOD CUT] Save $$with heating as it doesn't get that cold but might up make up for it with a/c?
The cons:This winter has been terrible. The ice sorm that hit was rare I guess but it was the most destructive thing I've ever seen. (Ive been in 100 mph straight winds in rockford Ill and blizzards too) . We have 5 acres (land is MUCH cheaper down here) 3 of it woods and you should see the mess. Take a year at least to clean up. Town was a disaster area. Tornado hit Springfield hour away also after that . Dread the summers. They don't pay much (like rural wis) but like I said its cheaper. Its not as pretty as Wisconsin (Joplin area) but it gets prettier the more SE you go. A big drawback for me down here is the LITTER! Even in the rural areas. We live on dead end and its all over, nice houses around here too. They don't recycle much down here either. Have to take it to recycle station and seperate it yourself, people won't do that. My wife is going to school for 2 years and we will be moving back to LA Crosse area. Its a little behind the times down here, even for Wisconsin. Its cleaner and prettier....

Berries,
I moved from central wi last july, to the springfield area Yes, the summer was hot, But the air is quite dry, except the day it rains. The sun is quite a bit hotter, than the wi sun. I enjoy the heat, and love it here. Went swimming in table rock lake oct1 last fall. Try that in Wi .

Never seen much in the way of litter. Guess it depends where you live. Everywhere Ive ever lived in Missouri had "blue bag" recycling. i.e. throw anything recyclable in it, throw it out with your normal trash and they take care of the sorting.

Guess they tried that down here few years ago and it didn't work..... The gap between the rich and poor, very large everywhere in America anymore is alot worse down here I have noticed... Alot more smokers too, not that I'm against smokers..

I like the cold. One thing about -10, you can dress for it, stay warm. When its 100 and humid, either stay in or sweat...ish. Now I like sweating, but not all day!

It has been an awful year for snow and cold. We have over 3 ft on the ground and the next 3 days the high will be about 3 or 4 and the lows in the below 20 to30 range. Its getting pretty old and so am I. Everything hurts when it is that cold

I think the low tonight is in the 20s, with a chance of snow flurries but no accumulation.
