I prefer the lower intensity of the sun of the nordic areas compared with E Kansas where I currently live. The summer sun in my area is just terribly extreme and brutual to me

WI to MO
Hi I just moved to southern Mo(near springfield) from northern wi.(48 years) I lived in southern mo 4 years ago.and came back sold out and got the heck out of wi. I LOVE IT and heres why. LOWER Taxes on real estate, NICE NICE people, cheaper gasoline price, lower electric rates, about half.cheaper food prices except dairy products,WARMER winters they tell me this is a bad winter Iam still waiting for winter to start. People are layed back and dont seem to worry about their image to the rest of the people just live your life, believe in god and help your fellow man out once in awhile. now for the bad , yes it gets hot spent 2 summers down here gets humid, Here you have AC, wi you got giant furnace. stay in AC, go out in evening it cools down faster here. Wi dog days of aug are about the same as here just its longer in mo. so its a trade off long cold winter or longer hot summer. Yes they have those Tornado's Get good insurance and a good storm shelter. The big difference for me is the early spring (march) and the late start of winter (dec) our horses were still eating grass in the field at Christmas not snowballs.blue collar jobs dont pay as well in mo. If your going to retire and have $ to live on its great if trying to work its harder but cheaper to live. well I could go on and on and here's some missouri southern hospitality Come visit me sometime and stay a spell. If your need more info I'd be happy to help. Thaks Larry

"People are layed back and dont seem to worry about their image to the rest of the people just live your life, believe in god and help your fellow man out once in awhile.
I find people to be very lazy down here compared to the north.. I have never heard so many "I don't know's" from so many city, state etc employees. Taxes are lower but Wisconsin is so much prettier. Theirs way to many people down here also. More parks, woods up north. As far as religion we got ripped off by a real estate "god fearing gal". So alot in the south (always have ) hide behind their god to lie, cheat and steal, of course not all. We have met some fine people down here. My wife has 1 year and 8 months left for school and its back to Minnesota or Wisconsin. I dread these next two summers as I hate AC and never used it up north. I like the outdoors and when its 95 and humid theres no point of doing anything. When its -10 I put on tons of garb and stay out all day. Can't do that with the heat. Also theirs more smoking down here and lots more litter than the north like I said before. In Joplin anyway. I can't wait to leave, I'm a yankee, and proud of it. We got ripped off by the real estate people, the inspector did not do his job and the sellers lied on their disclosure on the house. Now we have to go to court and get a lawyer. As far as nice people they are just as crabby down here. The gap between rich and poor is awful. Way to much poverty down here. Sad. People just don't care. Now lets have a mild summer! ps as far as food prices they are more here in joplin than where I was in wis, not much more, but more.

Hmmm, I wonder if your attitude has anything to do with the crabby people? We live in south central Missouri and it seldom has litter.
Wisconsin sounds like a beautiful place. Have a nice life there.

Wisconsin is certainly a beautiful place, but Missouri is too... Spend some time in ugly Illinois and you'll appreciate it.
Weird that you think living in Wisconsin you're a Yankee and living in Missouri you're a southerner... there's people that wouldn't agree with that.
Joplin has too many people? HAHAHAHA

Being from Houston, TX, I LOL when everyone seems concerned about the humidy in SW MO! I live In Kimberling City, right near the lake, and don't have any issues with the heat, or the humidity! I think we did have one or maybe two days of 100 degree weather, but those days, we just jump in the lake, or stay in the A/C. It is really mild, compared to other places I have lived, and I love seeing the seasons change. In TX, it was gray, wet and dreary for 4 months, in "winter", then Hot and humid for the rest of the year!
Missouri ROCKS!!
Hey there berries!! Can't wait for FB season!! Ready for some team rivalry!?!
Dare I say, GO COWBOYS in '08!!!

Let me make a couple of suggestions. Columbia Missouri is in the middle of the state. It's the home of the University of Missouri and several other colleges and universities. U.S. News and World Report named it one of the best cities in the U.S. to live in several years ago. It has two hospitals, one associated with the University, the other is a VA Hospital. The city has about 94,000 residents. The article mentioned above stated that Columbia has alot of cultural activities because of the universities. Unemployment was very low. Interstate 70 literally goes through the City of Columbia. It can get hot, and it can get humid. And in the winter it certainly can get cold, but rarely if ever to the extremes you mentioned. Another plus is the extensive walking and biking trails that have been set up over the past decade. It's certainly not perfect, but it's got alot of pluses. By the way, I live in a suburb of St. Louis, which is about 110 miles away - as is Kansas City, so I'm not a "homer".
Other choices are Springfield, Mo. population about 120,000. It's in southwest Mo. in the Missouri Ozarks. It's not far from Branson Mo., I'm estimating about 30-40 miles. It's the home of Missouri State University.
Finally, there's Osage Beach, Camden, and Ozark, Missouri, all located at the Lake of the Ozarks. There are lots of beautiful condos that sit right near the lake, which is unique.
I hope you'll consider Missouri. Of course, there's the Missouri.Gov website that'll have info, but maybe personal endorsements are better. Good luck.
