These are the cities that I have seen that I think are affordable and have hospitals in or near the cities. With us having our baby we feel and other members have mentioned the importance of a hospital in or near where we live. I just need help narrowing down my city list. Any information you can give me on the cities I listed would be amazing.
Savannah, Lamar, Adrian, Columbia, Mountain View, Carthage, Lexington, Mount Vernon, Hannibal, Neosho, Rolla, Doniphan, Dexter, Hollister, and Springfield. Thanks for any help that you guys can provide for me. **Sorry my other thread seemed kind of dead** Bryan |

I'd prefer Springfield myself, since there's more to do. I live near Doniphan and Dexter, and from my experience they're not really exciting. I don't have experience with the others.
But I prefer larger cities, so that's just my opinion. |

Thank you, From your experience do Dexter and Doniphan seem safe and friendly or what?? I like city life, but I am willing to be near other cities instead of in one, if it comes down to it.

I would look closely at Columbia or towns surrounding it if you like a more urban, but still small town feel.

I'd be careful in Sikeston or Poplar Bluff, though. Some areas can be rough there. If you plan on traveling into Sikeston, avoid the area around Sikeston Blvd. My sis lives on Davis and they had a shooting down the street from their apartment. |

. A lot of the older sections are in rough shape, too.Its a pity what is happening to that town, it used to be such a pretty little place . |

Are any of the cities I listed near Popular Bluff and affected by the danger in that city?

I don't generally like Poplar Bluff hospitals. I was born in one, but overall the hospitals do not have a good reputation.
But it might be okay for having a baby. I just wouldn't have major surgery there. My Grandfather had his surgery in St. Louis. Cape Girardeau has nice hospitals as well and my sis works in the hospital in Sikeston. |

I would choose Springfield. It has good medical facilities and shopping. I have a friend who retired to this city, and she enjoys the active outdoor lifestyle that the area offers its residents. Also, it is close to northeast Arkansas which is incredibly scenic with many opportunities for camping, fishing and hiking (all those fun family activities). Springfield has a low cost of living and very reasonable real estate. Columbia, Springfield, Rolla. Due to the strong university presence in these cities, I feel that you would have a higher quality of living, more diversity and highly rated school districts.
