Default Visiting this summer

Greetings,

My wife and I will be visiting the fine state of Missouri this summer. We reside in Northern California and want to see if Missouri will be a great place for us to retire. We will be taking 2 weeks and plan on starting up in Columbia then working our way down to the Branson area. Do you folks feel 2 weeks would give us enough time to get a general feel for the different areas? The areas we have in mind are Columbia,Springfield,Branson area and possibly Joplin and a few other small towns.

I am from the Midwest rural Ohio to be exact. I suspect from the research Ive done I would enjoy Missouri. We are really excited to start exploring the state.

Are you looking more at larger cities or smaller towns?

If you are also looking for towns that are more Midwestern I would suggest Kirksville, Chillicothe, and St. Joseph if you plan on visiting northern MO. That area is often overlooked, but has friendly people and pleasant scenery. Even the winters in northern MO are slightly milder than nearly any area of OH.

For southern MO some interesting towns to explore include: Rolla, Poplar Bluff, Springfield, and the Lake of the Ozarks area. The last location is a popular retirement destination for people from many areas of the US.

Have a fun trip to MO this summer

Thank you Plains10. Our number one goal is we do not want to be on top of our neighbors. Currently live in Sacramento. So be it large city or small that is fine with us. Just as long as we have a bit of land and some elbow room. We will take your advice and look further into some of the northern towns. I just noticed my wife had Lake of the Ozark written down.

Lake of the Ozarks is a great area. Love it there. Lots of nice small towns around it. Nice thing is you can be just a few miles from it and not even know it exists, but yet drive a few minutes and be able to enjoy all she has to offer! It do get busy there in the summer!

Missouri has so much to offer. You will definitely find "your" spot there somewhere!

Even in many of the larger towns you mentioned (Columbia, Springfield) you can get just a few miles outside it and pick up land relatively cheap.

Definitely check out Columbia, it's a neat little town (OK I say little because I live in Chicago now- but really it has about 100k people)
