Ohhh, do I remember going through that, Eric! It's a hard place to be but, like you, I know God has a plan and being the Alpha and Omega (the beginning and the end for those who don't know what that means), it is exciting to know that He already SEES you IN your future home and working your new job! It is impressive to see you walk with God and keeping such a great attitude as you seek His will above your own.

My job out here has been just fine, but I've been just a little frustrated that I've seem to hit a career advancement ceiling despite finishing grad school a little over a year ago. Again, this has to be His way of trying to make me a more patient person. I just feel like I've been skipped over in favor of people who have been with the organization much less long than I have. Then I get angry at myself for feeling a bit envious at them. In my efforts to advance, I can never wish anyone any kind of harm or setback.

My wife and I really like St. Joseph. Springfield is about as populous as where I live now, and we'd like to move to a town that isn't quite as congested. St. Joe, as I've written before, is on the whole a very pretty, quaint old town with a lot of great history. My wife loved it when she saw it despite the time of year we visited it (late March) when it still looked like the bleak midwinter there.

I think right now that I need to just keep my eyes open and jump at the chance for employment in the same field I'm in when the opportunity presents itself in St. Joe--or if the same or similar position opens up with the organization I applied for in Parkville.

That's great. I surely wasn't wanting to say what you should do...only that you pray and keep your ears open for whatever God says.

Our air quality in Santa Rosa was very bad last week, and there were places such as Ukiah and the entire Central Valley that were even worse. We had a rather spooky, apocalyptic-looking faint pink sunset a week ago, with the smoke so heavy I could look at the sunset and not be at all blinded. The latest news is that the residents of sparsely populated Big Sur (Monterey County coast 225 miles south of us) is having to evacuate from the fires. I think our air quality so far this week has improved to Moderate, but we are not out of the woods by any means. With over 1,400 fires throughout the state, our firefighters are having to let some fires literally run their course and allow to burn until it rains again, which won't be until at least September or even early October. We've had less than 1 inch of rain fall here since late February, and it's uglier and browner than I've ever seen it here this time of year. And to think Springfield has set all kinds of rainfall records this year.

Well, I'll tell ya...we were living in Crestline in October 2003 when The Old Fire broke out. The day it broke out was sooo hot and sooo windy (around 100 degrees, I think) and no rain was in the forecast. 10 days or so later, the weather turned cold and even snowy, if I remember correctly. We were all shocked! The power was out all over the mountain and I heard stories of animals dying from the cold whereas the worry in the beginning was the heat! I believe prayer brought that weather so keep praying and believing for rain!

As I wrote privately to SJ Fanatic, my wife and I have felt (even though my wife's a native Californian) like Midwest square pegs that won't fit in California's round hole! We'll never stop wanting to move back there.
That's the way we felt, too. And as hard as it has been here sometimes, we feel like Missourians and not Californians, even though we're both native to CA.

Hey Eric! We know exactly how you feel. Having to wait or feel you have to wait. ondering if God wants us to stay or go. Of course he made our answer clear when we realized there were things we had to take care of first. My stepdad just had a major heart attack, underwent a triple bypass, survived his bowells shutting down and his pancreas becomming inflamed and oh my wonderful Lord he is finally coming home next week. My mom realy needed us through all this. Pluss I decided to go back to school and get my associates degree in criminal justice. Im still waiting on that job. They wanted us to go through POST training at the sherrifs academy. Have you been through that JD or Northwoods? Not mandatory but highly reccomended. I figure with that behind me and and a degree I could realy get a nice job when the time comes for me to move to Springfield.
The weather here in Cali with the tornado warnings makes me long for Mo even more so. I love this weather. without the torados of course, but I LOVE THIS HUMID OVERCAST WEATHER! I also cant stand being so close to my annoying neighbors.

Default 100 years old today!!

Baseballs National Anthem, Take Me Out To The Ballgame is having a birthday!

I thought everyone might like to see the lyrics, as they are very kewl!

'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'

The original 1908 lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game:"

Katie Casey was baseball mad
Had the fever and had it bad.
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev'ry sou* Katie blew.
On a Saturday, her young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."
Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out
At the old ball game.
Katie Casey saw all the games,
Knew the players by their first names.
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:
(Repeat chorus.)

*A "sou" was slang for a low-denomination coin.

Hey Darlynn, ya remember the year that those Cardinals had them there Detroit Tigers down 3-1 and that there Micky L. guy still did 'em in? I was living in Motown then and you can guess who I was a rooting for. Bob Gibson was really great and feared but still the big Mic did it. Seems like he was a hero for hitting one out instead of striking out for once. Boy that was forever ago. Not to worry yourself though, I'm not a Tigers fan now.
