I posted this in another thread. I thought it would fit in here, too.
These churches around the courthouse square in Independence, Missouri are very historical. There are a few others in that general area. Most, if not all, are the oldest in Jackson County. It is the same county Kansas City is in. The suburb of Independence actually pre-dates the larger city by just a few years.
This Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), is more impressive architecturally than my photo skills would show. I thought it interesting that 8 of the original 35 members were black in the year 1835. Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone are somewhat considered heroes among some in the Restoration Movement.
This is the Community of Christ temple. It is supposed to look like a seashell, I think. They are a splinter group of the Mormons. One of Joseph Smith's wives started the movement, if I'm not mistaken. She decided to have them in Independence, which has historical significance to the Mormons.
As you can see, this is where the future President met Bess as children in Sunday school. The house he went 'home' to as President, is just around the corner. He also retired there after the presidency. The locals have a lot of interesting stories about Harry.
This is believed to be the oldest African-American church in Missouri:
Lastly, this Episcopal Church where Harry and Bess Truman were married:

Nice Pics folks.....
Hillman, The ice looks nice too, from my vantage point that is,,, Not having to live or work in it just look at it.
Ciaerin, nice shot's from your doorsteps, I just looked out my front window and I can see 41 cars, 2 kids riding skateboards, 1 garage sale, and 1 of those portable basketball hoops.....
Well it's 2009 so only 6 years to go......

After looking at those snow photos again I'm wondering how my outside kitties are going to take to snow...I may have to heat a cat house for them.

We only lost power for about 2 hours. My sis and bro-in-law are staying here. Their duplex now has power, but they can't get to the driveway.
The cold cause their car's windshield to shatter.
