You have done a superb job of reclaiming the land there.

50 White Pines an't they cute.I sure hope they enjoy their New home.
Its been tradition here last few years to plant a few hundred trees to give back what we have taken.

Looks great... when lived in the area, would go down to the Licking state conservation nursery and acquire trees such as those for planting. Would also sell the loads of walnuts to 'em too. lol, all the fun would have of days and days of tossing walnuts into the back of a truck... Planted some pines up here this past fall - looks like most of 'em got burnt during the winter, maybe might come out of it, will see.

I did a lot of that myself...it was fun, and everyone could always tell you had been picking up walnuts because your hands would turn yellow-brown, even if you were wearing gloves. I remember getting $10 per 100 lbs of black walnuts....not a huge money maker, but a full truckload could get you $100-200.

Nu2pomona: Have you been down to Noblett Lake yet? The lake itself isn't that nice (it was a CCC project in the 30's and has since silted in considerably and has a lot of aquatic plants growning in it), but the area surronding the lake is quite scenic and has a lot of nice hiking trails and old forest service roads to hike down. I don't think it is more than a 15 minute drive from Pomona.
Some more neat places to check out in Howell and the surronding counties (if you already haven't) are Tingler Prairie conservation area (south of West Plains), Grand Gulf State Park and Mammoth Spring (the latter in Arkansas), Greer Spring, McCormick Lake, and Turner's Mill (all in Oregon County). And then you have all of the scenic wonders in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways to enjoy too.
I know the area like the back of my hand, so let me know if you have any questions about your new home.
