LOL I've seen worse where there ARE building codes people pay no attention to. People who haven't been here have no idea what goes on in rural California.

I don't think it is more than a 15 minute drive from Pomona.

Some more neat places to check out in Howell and the surronding counties (if you already haven't) are Tingler Prairie conservation area (south of West Plains), Grand Gulf State Park and Mammoth Spring (the latter in Arkansas), Greer Spring, McCormick Lake, and Turner's Mill (all in Oregon County). And then you have all of the scenic wonders in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways to enjoy too.

I know the area like the back of my hand, so let me know if you have any questions about your new home.
Thanks for the offer. We're geocachers and that gets us out into the countryside quite a bit. That's how we found Sim's Valley Lake. There was a cache there.

One of our favorite things to do is just get in the car and drive. We take a few county maps with us and mark the roads with a highlighter. We've been to Grand Gulf, Mammoth, Ally Springs and Big Springs. We visited Eminence but want to go back this summer. I like to check out the hardware stores in all the little cities and the markets, the restaurants, etc. If we get too lost, we just plug in the Tom Tom and tell it to take us home.

Cool Lake photos...

That's actually one frame of 4 that I used on a virtual tour...it was really pretty. I'm so glad we're warming up...I've had my favorite swimsuit hanging near the bathroom door all winter...
