Default Flooding in Fenton

I just took some pix of the flooding by my house. This is 141 and I-44 and an old barn just off Smizer Mill.

Wowza! floods are a scary beast, and ever since '93 I've had a real fear of 'em. Hope everyone out there is keeping safe (and dry!)

Terrifying. My niece and her husband own a quarry near I-44 and 141. Their business is totally wiped out by the flooding. Never had this problem with any of the previous floods. We had to take about a 65 mile detour this afternoon because of the Gasconade River flooding the road near Mt. Sterling, MO. Did manage to see part of the countryside that we never had before.

Beautiful windy roads through the hills and valleys just south of the Missouri River, which, incidentally, has managed to cause flooding at Morrison and the town of Gasconade. And of course, I was low on fuel!

Our waterfront lots here at the lake have about 3-10 feet of water over the banks. Hope y'all are okay.

Thanks to you, WestCoDude for all of your efforts. Please be careful.

This was taken at 8 AM today. It's still rising, the crest is coming later today. The paper says I-44 will close at some point for 12-24 hours.
That will create a big 'ole traffic jam. 44 is a major corridor for truckers.

teresabutler is on a distinguished road
Is that on the route close to Six flags? That area looks familiar. We were down that way a couple years ago, when we went to Union, To see Dr. Ava Frick for our basset hound.

For those needing to travel, might go to MoDOT Traveler Information Map to review status of roads, and then look for other options.

Given that this is also a holiday weekend, going to be an extra amount of traffic.

Thanks to all for their sandbagging and other helps! Remember though, gonna be a nasty mess, and with various dangers too [contaminated drinking water, damaged septic systems, etc.], for quite some time even after the waters finally recede...

BTW, nice photos inoxkeeper - that last photo of yours, taken this morning, same area, but different perspective from the one on the stltoday.com site: STLtoday - Meramec flood crest may set record Wow...

Teresa, that is actually a bit east of Six Flags, and just a tad west of the Chrysler plant, more in Fenton than Eureka. [ps: hope your hound is ok ]

Unhappy Just some thoughts...

Before my wife and I decided on St. Joseph as the place for us to relocate to, Fenton was at the top of our list. It's a great town. I remember this intersection where the overpass is, and the flooding underneath it just looks surreal.

As with the ice storms in St. Joe last December and in southwest Missouri a little over a year ago, this flood too will hopefully pass. Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock, in this midst of this unfolding catastrophe, marveled at the way people have come from faraway places to help fill sandbags, and that's a specific example, I think of how Missourians, as much or more than most others, help people in their time of need. We've seen this right here in these forums. Friends helping friends, neighbors helping neighbors, and strangers helping strangers, who quickly turn into friends.

Seeing so many Missouri flood pics makes me feel like a spoiled brat here in northern California. We had a few wind storms that knocked down some tree limbs this past winter, but nothing of any real consequence. With little rain during the past month, we're back to about four inches below normal for the season. Today it's sunny and upper 60s for our high temps here. No rain is forecast for the next week and a half.

Whatever your religious/spiritual views are, it's a little interesting that this flood has taken place during Holy Week on the Christian calendar. As the sadness of Good Friday leads to the celebratory joy of Easter Sunday, I just pray it will be the same with recovery from these floods--that the waters will recede and new life will bloom. It's going to get better. Right now I feel sad--over 2,000 miles away and up to my eyeballs in debt when I should donate to the Red Cross and/or other organizations that are assisting with the flood recovery. So I'll pray, and tell the Devil that he's a liar that my prayers won't make any difference.

Anywho, please take good care, all of you, and I hope to meet a few of you at a SW MO "Over the Fence Coffee Club" gathering sooner than later. Happy Easter, and know that our Good Lord is with us in this time of trouble.
