Hi Krystyn-
I live very close to Washington, we go there for our business. Washington is experiencing a huge growth spurt. New Target just opened, Kohl's is next. This used to be a very small town. It is quaint and cute, has a large public school which has grown to 5A. Their Catholic school system runs the town, in fact if you aren't Catholic, you may have a hard time fitting in. Good hospital, good housing choices, although prices on new homes are quite steep. The nice thing about Washington is you are only 30 mins from the city, but it feels much farther away. Good luck! |

Everything is a "construction zone", even during holidays when there's no one working on the road.

Washington is a neat old river town but it does have its issues. Congestion is a big one what with all the construction. It's becoming very popular and highway 100 really needs to become a 4 lane road.
If your name is Holtmeyer or Voss you will fit right in. It's very Catholic...not that that's a bad thing! Land prices are going up out there, if you are serious I suggest you make your move soon. |

Washington has grown quite a bit over the last 15 years to a pretty nice city. Have beeb there many times and have shopped there. I like Washington and have some friends that live there. I find the people there very friendly. Many fine restaurants. Good Theatre. Variety of mom 'n' pop type stores as well as big stores. Not far from St. Louis, Pacific and Eureka. Six Flags.
Good luck on your move. |

Kohl's is open now as well (opened in late September). Along with Target and Kohl's, Steak 'n Shake has opened in the new retail development on the east side of town. There area quite a few other restaurants and shops scheduled to open there soon: Jimmy Johns, Q'doba, Bob Evans and another Starbucks (the first one is inside the Target).

Coming from a real-live WashMo resident, Washington is a great place to live. Having grown hugely in the last ten or so years, WashMo now has a Target, Kohls, Steak 'n' Shake, a brand new Walmart, and a myriad of other stores and restaurants. Washington is a very German area (I got a chuckle out of the post above that mentioned the last names "Holtmeyer" and "Voss"-because the latter happens to be my surname) and it is also a very Catholic area (as someone already mentioned). There are a bunch of Catholic Schools in the area (Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Gertrudes, St. Ignatious, Immaculate Conception, St. Claire, St. Francis Borgia, and a few others). If you're looking into enrolling your children in a Catholic school, I would recommend St. Francis Borgia Grade School. WashMo also has a great public library, beautiful city parks, and a YMCA (though if you're looking to sign your children up for league sports, look into the Babe Ruth Baseball League, Washington Football League -for grades 5 and up only-, and Washington Youth Soccer League.)
Overall, yes- WASHINGTON IS A GREAT TOWN! You get the small town charm with all of the family owned stores that only locals can pronounce the names of (i.e. Droege's, Schroeder's, Patke's, Rothschild's) and the big city flair with the division 5A public highschool (Borgia High School- the Catholic high school- is 4A) and all of the new businesses. Hope to see you around sometime, potential neighbor! |
