Thinking of moving to SW Missouri
I have been researching SW Missouri for about 6 months. My wife
and I are interested in finding out more about the climate. For example how humid is it in the summer. Does it get real sticky for extended periods of time.
Any area can have a heat wave that is tough, but I worry about stifeling
heat for long periods. The area seems really attractive to us, especially
in the Joplin, Neosho, Carthage, Springfield area. We are currently living up north near the great lakes, and do get some muggy spells during August
so we could deal with some humidity, just dont want months of it.

It can get pretty hot in Joplin during Summer, usually between July and August. It only usually lasts a couple days, but I do remember the summer of 2004 there was a week full of over 100 degrees. The weather changes a lot throughout the year. I even remember back in March we had a couple days that were in the 80s and 90s.

Thinking of moving..........
I am sorry I just found your post about moving to Southwest Missouri. I hope you are still thinking about moving. I would like to encourage you to strongly consider Neosho. Neosho is a very friendly town and we are in the beginning stages of a revitalization effort. There are a lot of exciting things happening here. In Neosho, you get the benefit of living in a small community, with the friendliest people, low cost land, and plentiful jobs. You also get the benefit of being 35 minutes from Bentonville and the tremendous shopping in NW Arkansas, without the hassle of having to deal with the traffic on a daily basis and the increased crime.
In short, you could not find a better place to live, come visit us and see what you think! Best wishes and I hope to see you soon, in Neosho!

It can be very hot and humid on some days in the summer, but it's not unbearable. You simple don't choose those days to exert yourself out in the yard and risk heatstroke. Temps will rise to 100F or even higher at times, but nights aren't too bad and unlike the northern Great Lakes area, mosquitoes don't seem to be as bad here. Sure there are hot humid days, but there're also a lot of summer rainstorms and thunderstorms which cool things down too. I've never been truly uncomfortable and I've never noticed the humidity to be Virginia or Texas thick and sticky.

Those hot humid days are when you head to the lakes or rivers,of which we have many. Nothing beats the heat like a float trip-cold fried chicken and just lay in the water with a cold one in your hand. Man, I can't wait for summer!

Live in Neosho?
Not sure why anyone would move to Neosho. Before you do, you might want to check it our first. At least read the newspapers on what goes on there. Neosho has a beautiful park and interesting sites but visiting and living there are very different things there. Joplin, Springfield and Bentonville are all much quieter and safer.
