I suggest Christian County (cities of Nixa, Ozark, Clever) or parts of Greene county (cities of Rogersville, Republic, Willard, Battlefield) They are all close to Springfield (in Greene county as well) so you would still be close to everything you need but still in a small town. Springfield is the 3rd largest city in Mo (next to KC and STL) but it does not feel like a large city. The further you go from Springfield the more land you would be able to get. There are lots of farms and acreage available here.

I agree. Good schools, good tax base for the schools and employment oppotunities.

Will you need to find employment? If so, what type of industry? How much land do you want to buy? Price range? How "rural" do you want to be? Some would consider Ozark and Nixa to be rural, while others would consider them both to be "suburbs" of Springfield (which isn't exactly a major metropolis in its own right).

There is such a broad range of places that might work for you, but you'll need to narrow things down a bit before much constructive advice can be given. Based off of your initial post, every county in southern Missouri would work for you.
