Missouri Vacation Spots
Most of us are aware of the obvious vacation spots such as Branson and Lake of the Ozarks. Have noticed in other forums vacationers looking for something different. With fuel costs what they are, some are 'staycationing' as one TV person called it. Do you have any secret spots or favorite places that you know of, here in Missouri that would appeal to either families, retirees, singles, etc.?

What about the little "Rhine" country for folks that are into wine? I cant think of a more lovely spot than the area around Hermann. Or perhaps the St James wineries?
Or could I bore folks some more by beating the drum about how lovely the Sainte Genevieve wineries are?
BTW, please forgive me for not adding links, my computer just does not approve of it, I suppose I am lame for that! But all the aforementioned are easy to Google.

I don't know how much of a "secret" this is, but we love Bull Shoals lake. We're leaving in a few days for a week's vacation there. I would suggest the Arkansas side of the lake, which seems to be a little nicer. Very clean, quiet lake, no drunken boaters or tons of traffic, so great I guess for families and retirees. We rented a 3 bedroom house at a resort with friends, for a week, and a boat for four days, and the total cost is less than $500 per family. Can't beat that!

Friend of mine just returned from Bull Shoals. She and her family said while it is still beautiful there, the flooding has really covered many of the places that they normally go to. Might want to check things out before going there. At least for the time being.

We are heading to the Bull shoals area, on the 4th of july for a week, we love it there, my mother lives in Gainesville. We rent a pontoon boat, and I get to show it off for the first time to my future daughter in law, she is very excited to see it all!
