Amish/Mennonite Communities
I seem to recall that there are some Amish and/or Mennonite communities in Missouri. Is my memory faulty? If not, are they primarily in the north or are there any in the southern part of the state. Thanks.

This is a good question. Do any of them have flea markets and if so, where? The Amish flea markets out here always have great stuff (furniture, delicious food, etc.).

There are large Amish and Mennonite Communities between Springfield and Marshfield. THe flea markets, at least the ones I have seen in Branson, are pretty commercial. I'm not sure how "Amish" they actually are...

I went to an Amish auction once in Jamesport Mo. They had a separate lunch line for regular people and a different one if you were Amish. The regular lunch line had a couple of choices and one was a hamburger. It was actually a Horse burger! The line for the Amish had a great looking dish of chicken&dumplings. These Amish people will treat you like dirt if you are handicapped. Been there seen it and had it done to me!

ew, horse meat! That's gross. Anyone else able to chime in? The Amish sections of flea markets out here are amazing - beautiful handcrafted furniture, hand-sewn clothing for babies, fresh produce, delicious baked goods, and all sorts of little things they have hand-made.

Isn't horse meat considered a delicacy in some countries?
Please don't gag but I know in Japan they actually have horse sushi.
And I think I read somewhere that it's become pretty common place on European tables.
It's only in this country where folks frown on it. Didn't California pass an ordinance where it is a FELONY to sell a horse for human consumption?

I will pass on the "Dobbin Burgers". Didn't really taste bad. Just tasted different. A short red fibered meat. You could tell anyone that hadn't eaten that it was venison or moose or elk and i doubt they would have known any difference.
