I don't think Missouri has hurricanes, but tornadoes usually occur once maybe twice a year down here where I am at.

We've been in this place for 12 years have had 3 Tornadoes touch down close by.One was an F3 which broke up 4 miles before it got to us.

The most damage is Straight Line winds, which cover a larger area and with little warning.

Hillman

No hurricanes, maybe the rain from when they become tropical storms if they come up from Texas in just the right path, but extremely rare. We're too far inland. Tornadoes are a threat and they seem to occur every year, but not in the numbers one sees in Oklahoma, Texas or Kansas.
The weather that makes me the most nervous outside of a Tornado warning is an ice storm. They jacked up my drainage pipes from the house, wrecked a lot of the trees, and cause havoc. I hate, hate, hate ice storms.

Randy Henderson will become famous soon enough
2 Tornadoes near Ozark, but neither hit our town, we are in a little valley. Both have been in the last 8 years. We aren't nearly on pace with, say, the flatlands of Oklahoma.

Default Missouri is a Big Place!

I've been here 13 years and it seems like the tornados form more over flat areas...when you're down in southwest Missouri, where the Ozark Mountains are, there aren't any real tornadoes. Thunderstorms, Ice Storms, Hail...but I haven't seen any tornados where I live, near Branson.

SW Missouri DOES get tornados. There have been several within 30 miles of Springfield in the last few years.

I don't know of one in the city limits since I've lived here (7 years). One that hit southwest of Springfield deposited some debris in town, but I don't think it actually hit the city.
