corundogs, there are two major way to pronounce Cape Girardeau. There is Cape Girardo and Cape Girada. I find myself using the 2nd one more and it seems more locals use the 2nd way of pronouncing it. Anyway Cape has alot of history for sure and your name won't make you stand out too bad Good luck with the move! I grew up 12 miles north of Cape.

And FYI don't call it "The Cape", otherwise people will probably ask you if your from St. Louis Most folks in the region just call it Cape.

Proper French pronunciation is with the emphasis on "rar"....that being said, those of us that are natives to the region simply say "Cape".

It pisses me off to hear Chris Mathews constantly say Missoura. He is not from rural Missouri. He also says MIAMA as apposed to Miami....these two word are NOT grammatically correct.

MIAMA is the way it is pronounced in Oklahoma.
Our state should be pronounced METHsouri. We are the meth capital of the US.

I'm from a small town in northeastern MO, and everyone in my hometown pronounces it Missouree. One of my Facebook friends (she went to our high school) says Missourah when she posts on Facebook, but that's in writing-she does it as a joke. If you say Missourah in my hometown, you'll get weird looks from people-or at least that's the way it was when I lived there.
