CHARGED WITH LARCENY

Miss Louise Johnson of No. 212 North Compton avenue, whose purse was snatched by a thief Saturday night, appeared at the Four Courts to swear to a warrant against George Moore, who was arrested and charged with the theft. She said she did not care to prosecute Moore if she could get out of it, but the police were insistent and the warrant was issued.

JEWELRY IN HIS MOUTH

" Grab Him Jack " exclaimed Police Chief Hayes to Inspector Halpin at police headquarters yesterday as they were " sweating " Scott Childs, a negro thief. Halpin grabbed Childs by the throat and from his capacious mouth dropped a diamond locket.
It was the last of the three lockets, valued at $160, stolen Wednesday from the jewelry store of Cady & Olmstead at Eleventh and Walnut by Childs and his pal, Will Wright. The negroes, who were arrested Wednesday by Detectives O'Hare and Dwyer, were recently driven out of Omaha. One locket was found on Wright, another was recovered from a pawnshop, and the third by the acumen of Chief Hayes, who noticed a suspicious protuberance on Child's right cheek while talking to him.

West Plains, Missouri 1966

Officers said a man reported that he was beaten last weekend at his farmhouse by a thief who stole about 10 turkeys.
Clyde Wood, 63, told officers a man arrived at his farm in the late evening, beat him, killed and dressed the turkeys, and then went into the house and cooked and ate two of the birds. Wood said the man then drove away with the remainder of the turkeys.

WANTS ST. JOSEPH BURGLAR

Jefferson City, Mo., Jun 1---Detectives J.M. Egan and B.H. Kelley of the Boston police were here today and secured a requisition for Joseph C Cowan who was discharged from the penitentiary today after serving seven and a half years of a ten year sentence for burglary committed in St. Joseph.
He was discharged under the three-fourths rule, earning two and a half years for good conduct. He will be tried in Boston on charges of burglary, committed prior to his conviction in Missouri.

A robber entered the residence of Judge C.A Mosman, at St. Joseph, early the other morning, and, drawing a revolver, made the judge hide his head in the bed clothes while the house was ransacked and robbed. Four hundred dollars' worth of jewelry was taken.
O.F. Schulz, assistant prosecuting attorney, was robbed of $25 in the same manner.

A street duel occurred at Glasgow between Matthew Sartin, a young farmer, and City Marshal John B Morgan, the result being the severe wounding of Morgan and slight injuries to Sartin. Sartin was resisting arrest. Citizens assisted Morgan and Sartin was overpowered.

STEAL MANY FOUNTAIN PENS

The police were notified yesterday morning that thieves had stolen 30 dozen fountain pens, valued at $340, from Skinner & Kennedy, No. 410 North Fourth street.
Entrance was gained to the store sometime between Saturday evening and yesterday morning. It is believed that the thieves used a duplicate key to the front door as all doors and windows were found locked and none had been forced open.

PLEADED GUILTY

Sam Harrington, charged with burglary and larceny and with being a habitual criminal, pleaded guilty yesterday to the charge of grand larceny. He was sentenced to serve three years in the penitentiary.
With two companions, he broke into the saloon of Charles Kloss at No. 19 South Twentieth street, on June 29, and stole a quantity of liquors.

PURSE-SNATCHER CONVICTED

Joe Brown, who was charged with snatching a purse from the hand of Miss Lizzie Cole of No. 1416 Poplar street, last June, will serve five years in the penitentiary for the robbery. There was $5 in the purse. Judge Wood, in passing sentence, took occasion to express his opinion on this class of thieves who are so unmanly and ungallant as to rob a woman.
