SHOT BY TRAIN ROBBERS

Bucklin.---Two men boarded a Santa Fe passenger train at the Russell Fork bridge, two miles east of here, held up and robbed two of the passengers and escaped into the woods. Oscar Kirby of Bucklin lost his watch and money. Luther Ryals, a merchant of Ethel, Mo., resisted the robbers, was beaten and shot in the left side.

Eldorado Springs.---The jury returned a verdict of guilty in the case of Roy H Kuehling for the shooting of his wife, Kathleen, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John B Whitesell, 12 miles southeast of this place, September 22, and sentenced him to 5 years in the state penitentiary.

John Duncan, of Warrensburg, was murdered last Saturday night by an unknown person. He had been to a house of ill-repute, when it seems a difficulty occurred which resulted in his death. Suspicion points strongly to one George Anderson as the guilty person.

A BOARDING-HOUSE KILLING

Springfield, Mo., Apr 28---Joe Tillery, 52 years old, was shot and killed about 11 o'clock this morning by Weaver Phillips at the Squadron boarding house in this city.
Tillery had just started to enter the house, where he boarded, when young Phillips, whose mother keeps the boarding house, opened the front door and fired the single shot which caused Tillery's death.
Last night, it is said, Tillery attempted to kill Phillips and this morning just before the shooting occurred, threatened to kill the young man's father, as he was passing the house. After the killing, Phillips at once surrendered to the police.

ROBBERY SUSPECTS FLEE IN PLANE; FORCED DOWN

Moberly, Mar 4---Two men suspected in taking part in a $4,872 holdup of a Kansas City restaurant February 25th were forced to land here later that day while on a plane trip to Chicago, Sheriff Amos Magruder disclosed yesterday.
He said bad weather forced the men's chartered plane to land here and they went to St. Louis in a taxicab. Four men robbed the restaurant. Rocco Lupino, 33-year-old ex-convict, has been charged in Kansas City with first degree robbery in the case.

ESCAPED PATIENT RETAKEN

Fulton. June 27--One of the seven patients in the Insane Asylum, here, who escaped with five convicts Saturday night by cutting bricks from a third story wall and sliding to the ground by means of sheets tied together, has been retaken.
The five convicts at large are:

John W Neely, serving 10 years for forgery
Charles Kopocus, St. Louis, 5 years for robbery
G.W. Bell, Jasper county, 4 years for bigamy
C. Kelley, 4 years for robbery
Walds Ely, Kansas City, life term for murder

In addition to these, Leo Smallwood, Vienna, Mo., also escaped.
The men were taken from the penitentiary to the asylum with a certificate saying they were insane.

CONFESSED TO STEALING $50,000 FROM THE MAIL

Nevada, Mo., Apr 11.--The mysterious disappearance of a $50,000 registered package, sent by the Traders' Bank of Kansas City to a banking house at Great Bend, Kan., on February 9, was unraveled here today. The suspect was arrested last Friday, but for reasons of their own, the officers made public nothing concerning it until today. The man who stole the money and confessed the crime is Edward Griffith, a son of the postmaster at Great Bend and there is a woman in the case.
Young Griffith at one time was an employee in his father's office, and had access to the place. He managed to secure the package containing the $50,000 and at once left Great Bend, deserting a wife and going to El Paso, Texas.
The post office inspectors tracked him down from El Paso to Carthage, and finally located him here. He confessed the theft.

MURDERER'S DARING ESCAPE

St. Joseph, Mo., Mar 8---Mark Dunn, convicted of the murder in this county, of a wealthy farmer named Fenton, two years ago, and sentenced to be hanged March 18, escaped from jail Monday morning.
Dunn got possession of two revolvers that were smuggled into jail in a coal oil can and forced the guard to be bound with wire he had used in making baskets. He held the guard prisoner all night, and forced him to call the jailer soon after daybreak. When the jailer appeared at the door, Dunn threatened to kill the guard unless the jailer turned him out through the wheel. The jailer did as he ordered. Then the murderer locked the jailer and his brother, a deputy sheriff, in the cell and fled with the key. A posse is scouring the country for the fugitive.
