On Saturday, the 10th, at Steelville, a difficulty occurred between two young men named James Norvell and Clark Duvol.
The origin of the difficulty occurred at the lyceum in that place. The two on the above day met at a store, where Norvell struck Duvol with his fist, and then went out into the street and stripped himself for a fight, challenging Duvol to come out.
On the impulse of the moment, Duvol drew a knife and rushed upon Norvell. At the sight of the weapon, Norvell, mistaking it for a pistol, and being unarmed himself, retreated, exclaiming, " Don't shoot me, Duvol."
Norvell backed up against a fence and Duvol cut at him furiously, inflicting six dangerous wounds. At last accounts his life was despaired of.
