Did a bit of research on Tick, Flea, and Chigger control. Moving to the Ozarks this spring and have 2 dogs and 2 cats all love to be outdoors. We were down there last August with the dogs and they both got ticks.
I found a site that said the following product works well. This is part of the article.
Permethrin
is a concentrate which can be used for certain types
of pest control. It also works well at keeping ticks
and chiggers off people, livestock and pets. Simply
mix it up as needed and apply it to your clothes
or to the pets fur. Permethrin should be applied any
day you intend on going afield. Pets can be treated
weekly.
I am not sure where you can get this product, (haven't researched that yet) but thought this might help.

Frontline offers an excellent product applied monthly for dogs/cats that kills ticks on contact as well as fleas, flea eggs, and chewing lice.
Nature is a lovely thing that it offers all these wonderful invaders...kidding!...lol

Another thing I do for my dogs is keep their coats short. I have a Border Collie and usually have her coat buzzed short to better spot any unwanted hitch-hikers and less shedding too... ...my other dog is an American Bulldog and her coat is short to begin with.
I would usually just check the dogs really well before coming back in the house.

I'll have to look into the chemical you mention...it could possibly be an ingredient in Frontline. The main ingredient is fipronil, (S)-methoprene as well as inert ingredients.

just googled Permethrin... It sounds like pretty nasty stuff and I don't think I would use it afterall. It is very toxic. Guess I'll go with frontline. I read an article in either Mother Earth News or one of those types of mags that had a natural remedy to make a flea collar out of. But I won't be using Permethrin.
