Well, I would have to say that in Douglas County (where I live now) you can find lots of land and a good part of them pretty reasonably priced. We are selling our house just on the outskirts of town and are going to relocate to Germany. I grew up here and have lived here most of my life. Its a small town and there are lots of places around that I have seen that are selling parcels or large pieces of land. You could just about pick your place here. I am thinking of like out on East 14, it goes to West Plains. I can think of lots of places out there where there are large lots of property. I am talking like say 20 acre parcels to over 300. There was a man who owned I am guessing thousands of acres out there and has them all set up into different amounts to sell. I believe its about 20 minutes out of town, close to a monistary I believe. It was just a little bit of info I thought I would share with you. I know how it is to be TO close to family. But, in Germany, I dont think I will have a problem with any of that. Luckily mine all live in Northern Michigan anyways. Well, best wishes to you. I am trying to gather my family up for our BIGGEST move yet.

Why would you have to home school, are the schools that bad?

I don't think they are bad, just not as good as I have seen in the MO suburbs. i.e. Parkway and Rockwood
school districts.
The larger schools do a better job of preparing kids for college IMHO.
I speak from experience, I was allowed to sleep thru my high school years and I still passed every year.
One year I missed 40 days and I still passed. At the time that seemed cool, now I realize I was cheating myself
and the teachers/admin (and my single mom) allowed it to happen.
My kids went to Rockwood, one is a Jr. at Mizzou with a 4.0 GPA the other is a senior in HS with
a 3.6 GPA. I didn't know what a GPA was or why it was important in my day, nor did I care.

Hey sweetness...if you live in West Plains now and want to be a short distance from the inlaws,I would recommend the Alton area. You will still have all the amenities you enjoy in West Plains but you'll be in a nicer place, and a smaller community, also closer to the rivers for canoe outings with the kids. It's not far to Eminence from there if you want to go but I personally would not want to live in Eminence. If the kids get sick or injured , a Doc is too far away. In Alton you have a new med cntr right in town, big supermkt with great meat dept, etc. I told someone else on here about the house we found west of Alton. We saw it on the Ozark Trail MLS site and it was listed for only 159,000. When we looked at it we thought about converting the small office to a 4th BR. IT has three nice BR's , basement you could possibly even convert to more space later on too. I would check this one out and look to see what else is there. It is the only nice brick house in the whole area for the money. The prices are real good for what there is for sale in that area. Course, you can always find some over a million in the same neighborhood but I'm talking reasonable for this one. It has a nice young fruit orchard, good garden spot, nut trees, big shop bldg, and a bsmt garage too so you don't have to get out in the cold or scrape ice off the windshield. I think it is on about seven acres, no close neighbors but just far enough off the road so you can see some traffic. We talked to a C21 agent about it and I think she was in Thayer

Check out the Bonne Terre/Farmington area. If you want RAW wilderness (and do not plan on doing much farming) Shannon County is the place to be. Lots of very rugged wilderness. Winona, Van Buren, Eminence, Elsinore. It doesn't get much more "off the beaten bath" than that.
