He had no hobbies or traits of what we so often see in those who call themselve redneck. Down the road a few miles it was just the opposite on another dairy. Dairy farmers seldom have the luxury of hunting, fishing, and having backyard BBQ bashes with friends. It's about the person not the career. And you are right. America is blessed with rednecks from coast to coast and border to border. Oh and some of them are outstanding citizens and some I would not holster my 38 around. My 2¢ for the moment.

How would you know exactly? Hunting, fishing, etc....those are not strictly redneck tendencies...I'm not even sure you could call someone who does that a redneck for certain. People hunt and fish in the Ozarks because the area is properly suited for those activities. And backyard bbq bashes with friends? that doesn't sound incredibly unordinary to me. And how do you know for certain that dairy farmers don't have time for those activities? You think all they do with their lives is dairy farm? Dairy farmers have hobbies, just like everyone does. If that's your definition of a redneck, I must say in all honesty that it is quite stereotypical and ridiculous. Now i'm not going to say that the Ozarks have no rednecks, as they are all over the United States, but what I am going to say is that they are not the majority of the population there, at least from my definition. And the people from rural Missouri are NOT the same as the people from rural Arkansas. There is a noticeable difference among people in the Upper Ozarks from the Lower Ozarks. Dialect is noticeably Southern in the lower half, as well as culture. The majority of people are not rednecks or trailer trash, even though they exist.

I refuse to stereotype anyone. I've met a lot of interesting people over several decades in many states and have a wide spectrum of friends. I leave people alone when they don't wish to be bothered. And you are right about 2 things: 1 rednecks which ever variety they may be are not in the majority. 2 they are everywhere. You maybe in the shopping line at the market and not realize one when you speak to them. The truth be known only a redneck knows if they are a redneck and most of the time it is not a derogatory term and but rather it is a fun a light hearted way of life. I'm probably stereotyped into more than one cat. Now I don't drink, don't hunt, or even have a pickup. But I still refer to myself as a redneck as I like it and it's my right. If refer to no individual as anything they themselves do not identify themselves as. I don't know any other way to simplify a definition of a redneck as I don't know how to describe them unless they are self declared. Two may do the same but one is and one is not. Ask them if you really want to know who is and who isn't. Best answer I have. Whatever your definition is may be OK or it may be not so OK. It still belongs to you. Ask around in an area where you think you have found them and see what they tell ya.

Maybe working their hands to the bones because they're proud of their crafts and what they can produce from their honest labor.

I hunt and fish. I love BBQ! I do not have a refrigerator on my front porch. Nor do I
1. Have missing front teeth
2. Have coon dogs running all over the neighborhood
3. Wear bib overalls w/nothing under them and unbuttoned on one side w/one shoulder strap hanging loose.
4. Chew tobacco and spit whenever and wherever I am
5. Wear a hat/cap everywhere and in the house at the dinner table
6. Have 4-5 kids under 6 years old, running all over the place in diapers only (if even that)
7. Make moonshine
Just a short list that I read in a book a few years ago. There were more items on the list but this is enough.
By the way, I don't chew and spit tobacco either.

Nope- nothing to be proud of.

OP...the above statement is what I would consider the thoughts of a redneck.
No class.

Wow Hillman not to be offensive but you look like the average stereotypical redneck/hillbilly along with your family.
What are you holding in that photo with the beer?
