Georgia columnist Lewis Grizzard wrote a wonderful essay defining a redneck. I'm a native Southerner, a redneck, a hillbilly and (I hope) a good ole boy. (BTW, I consider a pick-up a necessity, even though my job doesn't require it. I sold mine last year, but I plan on buying another soon.)

Funny... What makes an SUV diffrent than a F-350 Super Duty?

You'll know it when you see it. Kind of like I know a Gumba up here when I see one.

lol,,, In some parts of MO, esp. in the StL and her outskirts, a hoosier is somewhere in the mix of white trash and redneck.
Of course, a Hoosier is one from Indiana...

Nope- nothing to be proud of.

Other than the uneducated.....I've been one my whole life and didnt know it....hahahaha. Of course, you cant help to get low paying jobs when thats all there is in your area. Even the "good" jobs(those requiring skills/higher education), still pay as much(maybe) as McDonalds...
Anybody else experience the no jobs/low pay in other areas of MO? I've looking to move closer to STL so that I can get work. There just isnt anything here. Fast food is about it. And you can put apps in, but you can't force them to interview you, or hire you. I have many skills, and education but no go.

We are returning to live in Mo. and hope to be enlightened before our return.

You Know Your From Missouri:
If you think potted meat on a saltine is an hor'dourve.
If directions to your house include, "turn off the paved road."
If Jack Daniels makes your list of most admired people.
If your family tree is a straight line.
If you've ever worn a tube top to a wedding.
If your mother has ever been in a fist fight at a high school sports event.
If your dad walks you to school because you're in the same grade.
If you consider a six pack of beer and a bug zapper to be quality entertainment.(this happens to be true at my house)
If you have a brother named Bubba, Junior, or Jim Bob.
If you prominently display a gift you bought at Graceland.
If you view the next family reunion as a chance to meet girls.
If your front porch collapses and kills more than 3 dogs.
I got these from a Missouri postcard....since I collect them, I have lots of strange ones.
I can't say that I'm not much of a Missourian if these are the qualifications...heheehhe

I also enjoy the song "What This World Needs is a Few More Rednecks" by Charlie Daniels. In this song, 'ol Charlie sings:
"Now what most people call a redneck/Ain't nothin' but a workin' man/Who makes his livin' by the sweat of his brow/And the callouses on his hands/Now you intellectuals may not like it/But there ain't nothin' you can do/Cause there's a whole lot more of us common folk/Than there ever will be of you."
Well, for what it's worth anyway. It's a good tune I think, if not as well known as "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" or "In America."

I wouldn't call them a redneck....that's a blue collar worker....but isn't that what Jeff F. calls his comedy show?
