I've actually been through Greenville, Illinois (once in late 2004) and I was struck by its "postcard image". I liked it very much.---I haven't been back that way since....but I never forgot the favorable impression that I got from it.

Are you still thinking of moving to Missouri?
I'm actually moving away from Missouri after being here for about 6 years, but only because I found a new job elsewhere. I'm wanting to keep my home, which is a 40 acre ranch in Vanzant (about 15 miles south of Mountain Grove, which is about 60 miles east of Springfield). The house is around 1200 square feet and will be mostly furnished because I just want to leave everything there. I am in the process of refinishing the bathroom and then putting down new carpet in the livingroom, but will be out of there completely within the next month or so, maybe less. I want to keep the house, but rent it out. I also contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation recently who is going to come check out the land to use as a habitat. All of the land in the nearby area is cattle grazing farms (including mine; I rented out the land for the last 5 years to a person who kept his cattle on my land and fertilized it every year so the rolling, green landscape is beautiful), and Vanzant is a wonderfully quiet and lovely area with very nice people. I'm not sure how to even start thinking about renting a "ranch", I've never had the opportunity! However, the rent I'm thinking about would be outrageously low and it would really be a great place for someone wanting to stay in a rural area, but be able to travel around to different areas and find their dream home. Let me know if you're still looking to move to Missouri!

Hi, PiperGK1!
I recommend you start a new thread so that more people will see it. I think that people who are looking to rent before they buy or just rent will pay more attention to a post whose title says something about a rental being offered instead of reading through all these posts about "Rural Missouri" and then discovering, IF they make it all the way to the end, that there is an opportunity to rent in the Mountain Grove/Vanzant area.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your move! I hope you find some wonderful, trustworthy renters!

I'm glad that you've decided to come check out the Rolla area. Rolla has a lot to offer. We have a good hospital, but we're also just a couple hours from Springfield, St. Louis and Columbia. You'll also like our arts community; our town is home to Ozark Actors Theatre, an Actors Equity theatre. We also have an arts promotional group called Arts Rolla.
Try these sites for more information:
Welcome to the RollaNet GRAPEVINE!,
City of Rolla, Missouri Official Website - Home,
Public Radio KUMR and
KDBS Publishing LLC/The Ozarks Chronicle/The Ozarks Home & Garden.
There are some nice towns near Rolla, too, that you might want to look at. Licking has been mentioned. Also take a look at Salem, Steelville, Cuba, Owensville, Vienna and Dixon.

If you want to be near STL, go Rolla or Crystal City, if you want to be closer to KC go Booneville. All are nice towns with lots of beauty.
