Default NEED HELP SOON - Where to Stay in the Lake of the Ozarks?

Hi!!! I'm going to the lake of the ozarks next week and I need to book my lodging. I want to go and have a relaxing, romantic two day break with my girlfriend spending no more than 140/night. From the reviews from online travel guides, the 4 Seasons Lodge and Tan-Tar-A got intimidatingly bad reviews. For one, it seams the 4 seasons is very old and needs renovating. Any one ever stay there?

Ideally, we would like to stay near the osage beach area. We're not opposed to bed and breakfasts, but im kind of swaying away from that. We also plan to go out on a boat for two days. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Any other suggestions on how to maximize the two days? I'm hoping Missouri disappoint us Chicagoans .

Thank you all in advance!!!

I've stayed on the Tan-Tar-A a few days each summer for years as a kid (less than 5 years ago). I liked it just fine. There's a pool and a hot tub, mini golf there (when it's open), if you have a balcony it's nice to eat out there. Beautiful scenery as well. I've only been there in March, but it was nice. You can also drive into town there's more to do there. Southwood Shores is nice as well. It has indoor and outdoor pools. The condos are privately owned, but the owners rent them out sometimes during the summer. I've stayed there twice. They have 1 and 2 BR condos I believe. And there are nice views there, as well as fishing.

Have fun!

You can also drive into town there. It's not what it once was, but there's some 10-cent skiball, souvenir stuff, and fudge. You can kill a couple hours anyway.

Default Suggestion

I would suggest driving a bit further to Table Rock Lake south of Springfield, Missouri to stay at Big Cedar Lodge.

Table Rock Lake Resorts, Cabins & Lodging near Branson MO | Big Cedar | Branson Luxury Vacation

I have never heard of a negative comment about this resort. The food is excellent too.

Table Rock does have some advantages, being closer to Branson there are many more choices for dining, entertainment and lodging. Swimming is probably out as the weather has turned cool, but boating is stil good.
One advantage to Lake of the Ozarks is that it is close to Ha-Ha-Tonka State Park, which has a good easy hiking trail with some great scenery at the end. The town itself seems a little jaded as far as things to do besides shopping.
