Would like some advice on a good place
Hello. How is everyone? We are a big family of 6. We currently live in the country on 17 acres in Indiana. We are defenitely country people. We hunt, fish, hike, bake, sew, cook downhome food. Ok well the first part the guys do..the second half i do lol. I def don't hunt and i don't fish but love to watch them. That said.
My family on my mom's side were all from Missouri but they all moved to indiana when my mom was young. I have always wanted to move there. Due to the fact that I love middle of nowhere places.
We are looking for a small town hoping to find land or a place that isn't far from one. I've heard alot about nixa and ozarks. Can anyone recommend a nice small town, a place where the people are good down home country folk..crime is rarely heard of..just a good place to live.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I regularly visit west-central Missouri (Osceola, El Dorado Springs, Clinton, and all points in between) and I think it's a great area. Certainly you will find plenty of down to earth country folks, low crime, and lots of open space. I would recommend it.

Nixa and Ozark are growing rather rapidly, and are more along the lines of bedroom communities to Springfield. You really won't get a middle-of-nowhere feeling in either of those towns, as they are becoming pretty built up.
The good news is there are hundreds of other small towns just like you described. I'm from the Ozarks orginally, and a bit biased towards that part of the state, so I'll reccomend towns in Douglas, Ozark, Wright, Howell, Texas, and Oregon counties. I'm especially fond of Douglas and Ozark counties (the only two real towns in those counties are Ava and Gainesville (pop. ~2,000 and ~1,000, respectively)). All of those counties are quite rural, and very scenic with hills, forests, and beautiful streams.
Your best bet to pick a place would be to spend a few days in Missouri and see which areas you really like.

I love the area around Gainesville, and the population there is only alittle over 600! Beautiful place.

How's about Rocky Mount? When you stop for gas and pick up your mail and some fishing supplies or hardware or a handful of groceries and then pull out of the parking lot, you've seen it!!
I don't think crime is even a word here. Eldon is about 8 miles a way and Osage beach is about 10 miles a way and Versailles is about 15 miles a way. It's within minutes of Lake of the Ozarks. It's a great place to be. We Love it here!

Phelps County, Gasconade County, Crawford County, and Maries and Ozark Counties are all i the east central part of Missouri. Many, many fine towns, good schools, churches, civic centers, shopping in or nearby, lakes, streams, rivers, woods, and mostly reasonably priced homes and acreage.
Friendly folk and also you are able to be loners, if you so desire. Get a map, find an area that interests you, either check here on City-Data or google a town. Good Luck to you and hope you do find what you are looking for.
