Is Clinton a good place to live?
I would like to hear opinions of Clinton. Is this a good, friendly place to raise a family? Where are the best schools? We have never been to Missouri, so we have no idea what to expect. What is the weather like?
Any ideas and/or pics would be appreciated.

Haven't ever heard much bad about Clinton at all. Cannot comment on schools.
Have been to Clinton about 4 times this summer. Toured the town each time on the way out. Housing is all the way from cheapies to upper whatever prices.
City streets seem to be in very good shape. The town has a nice town square also. I imo think it is a nice town and i wouldn't mind living there at all. Town seems to be progressive and not stagnant at all. YMMV
PS. This town is very close to any of the great Mo lakes.

I visit Clinton regularly. It's a nice town, a clean town, a peaceful town. Can't say too much about the schools but I have a friend whose son just graduated from the public high school, was in the ROTC and won a 4 year full scholarship. Clinton is less than an hour from U of MO - Warrensburg. As far as weather goes, you will enjoy all 4 seasons - cold winter with some snow, ice; wet spring; hot summer; cool autumn. I can't think of any negatives for a family. Clinton has a movie theater, a grocery store, a super Walmart, Goody's and Cato's for clothes, roughly a dozen or so restaurants, a golf course, parks, a hospital, and housing in every price range. The people are definitely friendly. And if you want to visit the city, Clinton is roughly halfway between Kansas City, MO and Springfield, about 90 minutes to either.
Next time I go to Clinton, I will try to remember to bring my digital camera.

Do you have a job lined up in advance? Rural areas in most parts of the country do not have an abundant variety of jobs.

I have lived in clinton for about 11 years. i'm 26, and now a mother of three. My oldest goes to clinton public schools. She is now in Kindergarten, but has also attended the public pre-k for two years. The teachers in this district are absolutely wonderful!!! as a matter of fact, her pre-k teacher kept in touch with us during the summer months, just to make sure my daughter was still on track for kindergarten! Also, they have a marvelous parents as teachers program where a certified educational person comes to the home and has educational material for the younger children. Awesome all the way around!! As far as the town goes, well, i had the opportunity to move away, and when i felt about as far from home as possible, i moved back, and could not wait to get back into town!!
The people here are absolutely friendly, and during bad weather, it's not unusual for neighbors to shovel sidewalks and driveways for each other, as well as bobcat the driveway when we had a freak 19in snowstorm!! Wonderful ppl, as well as being close to the lake, with many activities throughout the year. Ole Glory Days on the square around 4th of july, as well as a hunting and fishing expo at the benson center, and a home show and many different types of events. Lots of good restaurants, mexican, chinese, home style, buffet, and BBQ. This is definitly what i call home, and love raising my children here. Any more questions, you can email me directly at malorimama@yahoo.com thanks!

i have lived in clinton for several years. I have not been able to consider it "home" im originally from Pa. please do not think im bashing anyone here. For me, and my experience i have found them not to be to friendly to outsiders. I have tried to find jobs many many places, to no avail. A women in a respectable job, pulled me aside after receiving my resume, and stated that because im not from here they would hire someone from here with less experience. With the schools, i can only comment on the rural schools. Not the schools in town Clinton. And i must say, that was not pleasant. I am usually a friendly, outgoing person who loves people and meeting people. in the years i've been here, i made 2 friends.
I hope that your experience is a better, and i wish you well. even though this was not the place for me, it may be for you. And for those reading this from clinton, i in no way am disrespecting you.

I am not originally from Clinton, either. As a matter of fact, I come from Southern California. And yes, when I first moved here, it was hard to make friends, and get a job. It wasn't because of where I'm from. It was because of my attitude. I learned really fast, that Clinton is a town that is laid back, and very comfortable in their ways. Of course, the job market is bad everywhere. The only way to really get a good job anywhere is to have connections to ppl in position to help you get there. I learned really fast that in town, it's not what you know, it's who, and the way you are able to adapt. I had a closed mind about moving to such a small town from a town of almost 200,000. It seemed that nomatter where i went, there were people that looked like they were friendly enough, but because of how ignorant and superior i felt, i couldn't make myself make ppl like me. Just a thought, because i don't know you, or what type of jobs you are looking for, but maybe it's not the people's attitudes. Maybe it's your own. I'm not saying this in a hateful manner, just giving my own insights.

We are a family of 7 five sons, and my husband and I. We are also looking at moving to Clinton, Missouri. What I am wondering is how are the schools when it comes to certain learning disabilities? None of my children have ever been in trouble in any way, but right now we live in a town of about 1500. I am originally from a big city, and my husband from a small town. So we know that it takes time to be accepted. Our children's eduacation is what matter, and their happiness. So if anyone has any input about eduacation and the crime rate etc I would greatly appreciate it.
