Arrow Potosi, MO???????

I am looking to relocate to Potosi. I would love to find a house and rehab it while still working, here, in Chicago.

I was curious as to the job market in Potosi and the surrounding areas... I am 26 years old and have been in college admissions for 5 years. I have a Bac. in Business/Martketing and a MBA in business and will be working on my PhD.

Does anyone have more info on jobs and pay rate, by chance?

Thank you!
Jenni

Talking Jobs In Potosi

Potosi is a small town with a C-5 Level Prison, it all depends on what kind of job you are looking for. There are other towns around it, and what in the world would take you to Potosi? It is also close to Bonne Terre - this is where you might want to buy a house. You can work in St. Louis, MO and drive back and fourth, but for an individual with a Masters in Business/Marketing, you might want to apply through the state to work at the prison, unless you are playing on coming to Potosi with some money already. It is in Washington County, go for it. There are other towns in Missouri that offer an educated indiviudal a lot more all for the same convience Potosi offers. It's all on you, go visit it and stay awhile in the town and then go from there..

Funny....

I never thought I would see a moving to Potosi post! Do you have family there or did you just want to live out in the country? I grew up in Ste. Genevieve county and it is very safe and somewhat close to st. louis. Take a look there as well.

Cool Relocate to Potosi

Job situation here is so-so. Wages are depressed within 30 mile radius. We have the prison, Purcell Tire, Wal Mart, and a shoe factory. The rest are small businesses, and few pay benefits. Good jobs are snapped up in Potosi before most know they are available. Your best bet is Chrysler, in Fenton, or Doe Run, in Vibirnum.....or something in the city. You'll have to drive at least 30 - 35 miles one way for a good job. Housing prices are not as much of a bargain as you would think, since wages are $10, or less. I guess it depends on what you are expecting.

You could run for office and try to get the backwoods up to date with technology. My last visit had the movie Deliverence running over and over in my mind. City Hall is a gossipfest around their desk (no water cooler) and they are still 20 years behind on recording deeds, etc. They need someone in office, to bring them up to the times. Well, how about 10 years closer. It might also help if official actually worked a full week. If you have any business there you have to get their fishing and hunting schedules to see who will be in their office.

Default Why Potosi?

Hello,

Why in the world would you want to move to Potosi? Unless you are looking for work at the prison or are into the crystal meth business, you are 75-80 something miles from St Louis, although it is a pretty area, as they say, "you can't get there from here." It is in the middle of nowhere, and in what is called the "buckle of the meth belt." If you are looking for recreational property near rivers or lakes or horse property, which there are MANY areas near ST Louis, which provide an easier commute, I would really recommend looking elsewhere. Sorry, to say- try around Farmington, which is growing and has easy access to jobs and the city and recreational areas, wineries, lakes and rivers, nature preserves, on the edge of big forests... Give you much of the same feel but without the crime and isolation and more amenities that a younger person might want- some decent restaurants, services, 2-3 good hospitals. Good luck.

You could get a lot of house, and probably land, for very little money in this area. It is really growing. There are jobs to be had anywhere really. More and more people are leaving StL for these burbs, and building huge houses on cheap land.
