Cape Girardeau Question
I am moving to Cape Girardeau from Vermont. Our state was filled with warm, caring friendly people until it was "discovered" by Massachusetts, NY City and New Jersey. Is this city a nice place to live or was it "discovered" by the same? I looked into Louisville, KY. Called on several houses for sale and the person on the other end was an investor "flipper" from New York. Decided against Louisville. Is that happening in MO? Looking for nice LOCAL country folk, not "anti everything". Don't want to live in an area where the police take you to jail for going 5 miles over either!

I don't know what exactly it is that you're asking.
If you can clarify, or ask specific questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Specifically,
Are there people from NY City, Massachusetts, and New Jersey moving there to gentrify (ruin) Missouri?
Are the people in Missouri welcoming and friendly to other nice country folk who move there from from states that have displaced them by rich pretentious invaders?
Are the police harassers in Missouri, or do they respect you if you are law abiding, and respect them in return (in other words do they pull people over and search/harass them b/c of out of state tags like they do in Virginia, Texas, Florida)?

Is the first question a serious one? Do you really think people would move from NYC to Missouri to ruin it? That's absurd. As for the rest...
People in Cape are pretty welcoming, it seems. It's a good place to raise a family. I don't think police harass out of state people unless given a reason to do so. I do know that Cape is HUGE on stopping drug use. Way over the top if you ask me. But other than that, the police force seems to be pretty normal.

I don't think people would move to MO from MYC to ruin it. But they did move to Vermont to do just that. Not to get on a Vermont rant, but we used to be a beautiful country place with kind country folk who would ask you to stay the night if your car broke down. About 15 years ago people from NYC, NJ, MA started moving here in droves. Now we have litter everywhere, crack dealers from Hartford, Springfield MA, Bronx, NY, school shootings, college students murdered, rapes Etc Etc. I am talking an epidemic in 15 years! I don't want to settle somewhere and have that happen all over again. The ULTRA liberals started social programs, elected ULTRA liberals, and spread the word that all you needed to do was come to Vermont from the inner city, get as many local girls pregnant as you can, and you will get the world handed to you. Don't forget getting them hooked on drugs so we can give you a nice Methadone program. I am not joking or exagerating! I am no extreme right winger, but this is absurd! I just want to find a nice place where my wife can live without carrying a concealed weapon as part of her wardrobe.
This link happened in a quiet rural country town with about 300 people. What are felons from MA, CT doing here?

This is what is happening around Branson/Springfield. Branson has been a pox on the state, introducing people from all over the nation to Missouri. Once they move here, they decide the natives are too conservative, too many churches, not the "right' kind of shopping, blah, blah blah. Of course they only want to "fix it" to make it better, but eventually it will degenerate into the kind of mess you describe. Crime in Branson is already up 400%.
Now as to the Cape, I've been a visitor there a few times and thought it was an enjoyable town. I don't think it's had the overexposure Branson has had, so hopefully it's not getting such soul-crushing growth.
Good Luck!
