Only you will know if its the right place or not. Regardless of what any of us say wether good or bad. And if you do move, and you find its not for you...you just keep looking for that place to call home. Best of luck to ya.

Default I can already feel a difference

Thank you all for your great replies. I sure needed the boost. There's just something that I can sense about the different attitudes Missouri foks have. There seems to be a bit more empathy and sensitivity, and not the harsh, cold kind of feeling that I now feel in the Northwest. I know there are caring people here, just hard to explain. I guess I am looking for more than just four walls - I'm looking for a place to call home. Thank you all!!!

Lots of good suggestions. Seems everyone is looking out for your well being, which is what we do for one another here the Ozarks.

I'm not sure where in Washington you currently live as you did not state that, but finding a place that is similar in population size may help for an easier transition should you choose to make the move. Most people are not intimidated by Springfield whatsoever. It has over 100k people, but it is spread out and not extremely dense in population. That tends to make people feel more comfortable. Nothing wrong with KC or STL, but it you're looking for affordable residence and still have a larger city feel, then my suggestion is Springfield. There are no amenities that Springfield doesn't have, and the people are as friendly as they get.

As for the question of outsiders, I honestly haven't seen a person not welcome in this area just for being from another state. It's kind of like law around here, treat others as you want to be treated. I'm not going to say that they aren't those that wish for people to not move here or that there aren't any unfriendly people in this area, but for the most part you will welcomed with open arms. As with anything, it can be as good or bad as you make it, because you are ultimately responsible for making it the best move you ever made or possibly the worst. I hope that you take some time to consider what everyone has offered here. Good luck in what ever you decide.

Why in the hell would you ever leave the beauty of the northwest and come to the midwest???????????? Just stay in Washington, go to community college and get some job skills, then move into a nicer apartment. Problem solved and you get to stay close to your daughter. I get the whole 'the rain here really sucks' thing but you should seriously consider the change in landscape when moving. I moved here from Phoenix a couple of years ago and I miss the mountains big time.

Very true. The people in the midwest are much nicer and much much more friendly then the people on either coast. Not sure why?

Beauty is a very subjective thing and is in the eye of the beholder. I find the Ozarks to be very beautiful. I'm biased because I grew up there, but I love the natural beauty due to the trees, the hills, the rivers, and the changing of the seasons. I've been all over the West and love visiting and really like the mountains (Wyoming or Idaho have to be my favorite states), and I still think the Ozarks are beautiful, just in their own and different way.

People in the lower Midwest seem to be more outgoing and extroverted compared with the upper Midwest. A DEFINITE regional difference exists IMO.

I can attest to the fact about how welcoming the people are in the Ozarks. We just recently moved here this past November and have met some very fine people. We have been more than welcome in our new church and it is actually very nice to see people you know when you go shopping.

Hey APJ, what's the meaning of the Latin phrase under your name? Not knowing Latin, I'm going to guess- "I question, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am". Is that anywhere close?

Something along the lines of "I doubt, therefore I think, I think, therefore I am". Which I believe some people consider to be misquoted, and the correct philosophical statement to be "Cogito, ergo sum".

It's a phrase usually associated with the great mathmatician and philosopher, Rene DesCartes....

"I doubt, therefore I think. I think, therefore I am."
